Why'd you wanna break my heart, babe?

Oh dear.

The UK "taste moguls" have spoken. Miss Molly Smitten-Downes ("Whoooooo?!") will represent us in the UK with her dirge "modern anthem" Children of the Universe.

I really do not like it one little bit, but hey ho, who cares about the real Eurovision fans in these days of X-Factor, No Talent and all the other "lets-get-the-audience-whooping-like-gibbons-over-a-crap power-ballad" TV shows that have ruined our music industry?

What ever happened to the fun? Like this:

Belle and the Devotions

  1. Still haven´t heard the song, but I don't much care for it's title. But like I said before: it simply can not be any worse then what Iceland is sending this year!

It seems that the bloody reality TV talent crap has taken over - in the 90s it was ALL about endless ballads. I think it's time to get back to the fun times of the 80s, where at least you could laugh at the whole thing...

I still hope there will be a handful of decent songs - there usually is...

    1. I keep my fingers crossed for some "fun acts" or some "decent songs" but every year these seem more and more elusive... Jx

  2. Love Games by Belle & the Devotions is one of my absolute favourite Eurovision songs (although my list of favourites is quite long, the more I think about it).
I purchased this on 7" in 1984, I remember being gutted it peaked at 11 and so missed out on being a Top Ten single.
    I disliked 1983's UK entry : Sweet Dreams x

    1. Oh, the days when a Eurovision song would even get a sniff of the charts... But then I suppose unless you're American and "urban", or else a twangy bunch of scruffs with a nasal "emo" folksy whine, the charts are not going to be an option - and since it's all downloads, ringtones and streaming videos these days, it is impossible to call the charts any kind of "chart" anyway. 3. I quite like the song Children of the Universe : but it doesn't feel like a Eurovision song at all ...

    1. To my ears it doesn't sound like any kind of song at all. An advertising jingle for tampons, maybe. Or pensions. Or one of those daytime charity appeals. Jx

  4. Just heard it. While it does sound more contemporary than recent UK entries, it bores me to tears...

BTW: Sanna Nielsen won Melodifestivalen. No surprises there...
