I think we could all do with some peace, every now and then.
Here's the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra (conducted by Sir Charles MacKerras at the BBC Proms 2009) and a masterful rendition of
Venus by Gustav Holst, to do just that:
I feel a lot more mellow now.
That was lovely. Thanks, Jon.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to find my "The Planets" CD ready for the journey to work tomorrow.
It is surprising how - even if parts of them are played to death by the likes of Classic FM - such well-worn standards as The Planet Suite or Vivaldi's Four Seasons can bring such unexpected moments of joy. Jx
DeleteRadio Three absolutely urinates on Classic FM - thank God for the BBC whether you believe in Him or not!
ReplyDelete(Tho to be honest I only listen to it when there's nothing on radio 4, 4extra or radio 2)
Classic FM is aural wallpaper, punctuated by immensely irritating adverts. I am more a Radio 2 (especially night times and weekends) sort of gal, but Radio 3 is a great source of pleasure, and Radio 4 is essential for the "real" things in life, such as news. The BBC is a national treasure I will defend against any number of Murdochs and their crass ilk! Jx
