Lament for a lost age

[click to embiggen]

After a lovely day with Mother yesterday - it was our turn to host, and she loved sitting in the extensive gardens here at Dolores Delargo Towers - today's a bit more laid-back. The weather doesn't exactly lend itself to pottering out there, despite the fact there are some plants that are obviously outgrowing their pots and need moving on; it's overcast and occasionally drizzly. More like autumn than "high summer".

Let us instead take a good old wallow in the lives of impossibly-glamorous people in exotic locations (well, Hollywood) again, shall we - courtesy of the ever-marvellous Soft Tempo Lounge:

How many stars could you name? And how many are still with us?
[I know Dame Julie Andrews, Sir Michael Caine and Mlle Brigitte Bardot are, but...]

Perfect Sunday Music, nonetheless.

You too could be a hero (or villain, or robot)!

Fancy owning C3PO's head, Indiana Jones' whip, Captain Marvel's shield or even Freddy Krueger's murderous glove?

If you had a million or so to spare, you could - as these, and much, much more will be going under the hammer next week!

Propstore's Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction 2023 takes place between 9th and 12th October - and it will be live-streamed, so you don't need to miss any of the action...

[I had a look through the catalogue, and couldn't find Chris Hemsworth's penis listed, more's the pity...]

Fayeness

The lovely Miss Alice Faye would have celebrated her 98th birthday today!

Let us celebrate the anniversary of that great Hollywood showgirl with a little number she happened to do back in the 60s with two other dearly departed troupers, Bing Crosby and Phil Harris - at The Hollywood Palace (where else?):

That dress, that dress...

"I am not interested in money. I just want to be wonderful." - Marilyn Monroe

The white Travilla dress worn by Marilyn Monroe in the 1955 film The Seven Year Itch sold for £2.8m at The Debbie Reynolds Hollywood Memorabilia Auction in Los Angeles.

Miss Reynolds, 79, was reportedly in tears as the auction closed.

"Hollywood is a place where they'll pay you a thousand dollars for a kiss and fifty cents for your soul." - Marilyn Monroe

Art vs nature

Once again we hit smack bang into the start of another working week - unwanted, too soon, too miserable...

So to cheer us up on this Tacky Music Monday I think I just have to revisit the Palace of Tackiness that is Night of 100 Stars!

Last time it was 1985; here, three years earlier, there are even more doyennes of kitsch still alive and living the dream - just check out Mary Martin's face to see a true triumph of art (or in her case dreadful surgery) over nature!

Have a good week, whatever!

Extravaganza

On Tacky Music Mondays, I generally favour something cheerful, glittery and glitzy, something involving cheesy dance routines and forced smiles, something outrageously big-haired and big-shouldered from the 80s, in fact anything and everything unashamedly camp...

Put them all together and what do you get? This!!!
