The final frontier

I am aching in places I didn't even know could ache, having spent several fruitful hours in the extensive gardens here at Dolores Delargo Towers. Two full bin-bags of crap - mainly sycamore seeds and prunings - later, and I have barely scraped the surface (literally) of about one-third of what needs to be done...

On a different subject altogether, we're apparently in the middle of World Space Week (who knew?), so let's have a selection of suitably-themed songs for your delectation, shall we?

First up, an old, old favourite that I and my sister used to dance to way back in the early '80s at Lazers nightclub (RIP) in Newport:

A classic that simply had to be here:

From the sublime to the ridiculous...

Donny & Marie Osmond Space Finale With Charo, Roy Clark, George Gobel, Osmond Brothers:

And three bizarre examples from the kitsch end of the genre...

...ending up with Miss Sara Brightman and Hot Gossip and their timeless - ahem - classic I Lost My Heart To A Starship Trooper:

Strange new worlds, indeed.

Puts you there where things are hollow

For a change, the fact that it's Monday again is of no great significance to me, being off work with the broken foot and all.

However the start of any week must still be celebrated with glitz'n'glitter, as is traditional here at Dolores Delargo Towers...

What more glittering - and tacky - could you want this Tacky Music Monday than a double bill [I spoil you, dear reader!] of the pearly-white-teeth-led eye-popping "entertainment" that was provided by The Donny & Marie Show?

First up in this cringeworthy mélange is my childhood crush [I know, I know!] Donny, dressed in an illuminated cape to die for, and his own "tribute" to the most influential musician of all time Mr David Bowie! [To his credit, he doesn't completely massacre it...] Here's Fame:

[2019 UPDATE: the video has gone from the interwebs, but Donny posted a 15-second clip on his Instagram]

And what would a Donny & Marie Show be without a suitably overstuffed-with-guests finale? [Made even more bewildering by the fact that I have no idea who Roy Clark or George Gobel actually are/were.] Worth watching from 3.11 alone for a fab appearance by none other than Charo!

Space. The final frontier. Indeed.

Have a good week, peeps!

PS in case the profusion of members of "Utah's First Family" causes any confusion, help is at hand: Behind the Teeth: Know Your Osmond. [2024 UPDATE: gone from the interwebs]
