Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Hapus!

The lovely "Tete-a-Tete" daffs in the extensive gardens here at Dolores Delargo Towers never fail to cheer us up

Happy St David's Day, dear reader!

Who better to celebrate it with than not one, but two, of Wales' greatest vocal sons, Bryn Terfel and the ever-lovely Tom Jones, reminiscing about their (our) shared homeland?

Aw, there's lovely, innit?

Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Hapus!

Our daffs have been glowing in the sunshine today!

Happy Saint David's Day, dear reader!

It's been a beautiful day for the celebration of all things Welsh - and floral - and I have spent it fruitfully in the extensive gardens here at Dolores Delargo Towers. I've dug out and repotted a big Thalictrum and two hardy geraniums, pruned back a few more ferns, and redone the window box that had been ripped out and scattered everywhere by a bastard fox, pottering and tidying as I went along. Now I'm aching - but happy.

Speaking of things to cheer one's spirits - how about a bit [and I know which bit I'd have liked when he still looked like that!] of Sir Tom Jones, Tom Jones? Os gwelwch yn dda!

Fab-las!

Speaking of all things Welsh - "What's occurring?"

Well lush.

Daffs in the extensive gardens here at Dolores Delargo Towers

Happy St David's Day, dear reader!

On this day of all things Welsh, how fortuitous it is that one of our fave bands - whose repertoire often featured on our "getting-ready-to-go-out" playlist while we were in Spain - has not one, but two members who were born in the Principality (Ian "H" Watkins and Lisa Scott-Lee).

That gives me a perfect excuse to lead the party mood for the weekend [OK, I know I've been off all week, but it's still worth celebrating] - with this!

Thank Disco Steps It's Friday!

Cymru am Byth, indeed!

Happy Saint David's Day to all you fellow Welshies (and honorary Welsh, and others)!

Let's have a little sing-song (as is apparently our wont), shall we? - in the company of the divine "Dame Katherine Jenkins of Neath" herself...

Songs:

  • Ar Hyd y Nos (All Through The Night)
  • Cwm Rhondda (Bread of Heaven)
  • Calon Lân
  • Men of Harlech
  • Delilah

Aw. There's lovely!

[FOOTNOTE: Yes, this is a recycled posting - but hey, why not?]

Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Hapus!

Our "Tete-a-Tete" daffodils are holding court at the moment

It's Saint David's Day again, cariads!

Traditionally, this is the day when we (former) inhabitants take pride in the Principality of Wales that gave us male voice choirs, Welsh cakes, Dame Shirley Bassey, Sir Tom Jones, W. H. Davies, Christian Bale, Ivor Novello, Terry Jones, leeks, Taron Egerton, Roald Dahl, Sir Richard Burton, Mary Quant, Dame Siân Phillips, Dorothy Squires, Charlotte Church, Julian Cope, Ioan Gruffudd, Michael Ball, Ray Milland, Ruth Jones, Desmond Llewelyn, John Cale, Dylan Thomas, Rhys Ifans, Catherine Zeta Jones, Manic Street Preachers, cawl, Sir Bryn Terfel, David Lloyd George, Tessie O'Shea, Rugby Union, Gethin Jones, daffodils, Laura Ashley, Steve Strange, Russell T Davies, Jonathan Pryce, Timothy Dalton, Michael Sheen, Ruth Madoc, Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Tommy Cooper, Molly Parkin, Stanley Baker, Roger Rees, Sir Harry Secombe, Katherine Jenkins, Bonnie Tyler...

...and Cerys Matthews (of course)!

What did I do wrong?
Oh you nearly drove me cuckoo
Am I really all that bad?
You're worse than Hannibal Lecter, Charlie Manson, Freddie Krueger
Why are we still together?
Oh I can't leave until you're dead
You mean till death do us part?
I mean like cyanide, strangulation or an axe to your head
It was lucky for us I turned the radio on
They say that music soothes the savage beast
There was something in that voice that stopped us seeing red
The two of us would surely have ended up dead

You stopped us from killing each other
Tom Jones, Tom Jones
You'll never know but you saved our lives
Tom Jones, Tom Jones
I could never throw my knickers at you
And I don't come from Wales

So haven't solved our problems
You mean we hate each other's guts
I still wanna poison your pizza
And I still wanna cut off your nuts
I phoned the marriage guidance
I tied the phone line round your neck
I'm sick of all this hatred
Well that will be the arsenic making you sick
You were about to drive me over the edge of a cliff
As I tried to jump out I knocked the stereo on
You changed your mind and then slammed on the brakes
It was lucky for us we bought his greatest hits

You stopped us from killing each other
Tom Jones, Tom Jones
You'll never know but you saved our lives
Tom Jones, Tom Jones
I could never throw my knickers at you
And I don't come from Wales

And now the war is over
I've lost the urge to break your neck
I owe my life to What's New Pussycat
Delilah stopped me hating you and wishing you dead
Oh I used to call you Satan
And you were Cruella De'Ville
And now you call me your Delilah
And I am not your Lucifer
And I am just your pussycat
But just a word of warning now
Just in case we ever get tired of his voice
I know the Mafia, Godzilla, King Kong
And I know an atom bomb that's going for a song

You stopped us from killing each other
Tom Jones, Tom Jones
You'll never know but you saved our lives
Tom Jones, Tom Jones
I could never throw my knickers at you
And I don't come from Wales

A - ahem - lovely ballad, indeed.

We have never referred to (Sir) Tom Jones in the singular ever since...

Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Hapus!

Our lovely "Tete-a-Tete" daffs are a joy.

Whoosh! Another weekend gone in a flash, and here we are again. Back to the "World of Dreams".

It is, however, Saint David's Day - the Patron Saint of my homeland Wales, so on this Tacky Music Monday, who else would I choose to provide an OTT "wake-up call" but Llanelli's finest...

...Dotty!!

We adore her!

Have a good week, dear reader.

Eat some Welsh Cakes.

Daffodil Tête à Tête putting on a great show in the extensive gardens here at Dolores Delargo Towers.

It's Saint David's Day, dears - a day to celebrate all things Welsh, including cawl, daffs, leeks, male voice choirs, Welsh cakes, rugby, Dame Shirley Bassey, Christian Bale, Ivor Novello, Terry Jones, Taron Egerton, Roald Dahl, Ray Milland, Dylan Thomas, Catherine Zeta Jones, Sir Bryn Terfel, David Lloyd George, Dame Siân Phillips, Mary Quant, Dorothy Squires, Sir Richard Burton, Laura Ashley, Steve Strange, Russell T Davies, Jonathan Pryce, Timothy Dalton, Michael Sheen, Ruth Madoc, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Tommy Cooper, Molly Parkin, Sir Harry Secombe, Katherine Jenkins, Bonnie Tyler, and...

It certainly is this morning.

Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Hapus!

It's grey and miserable out there with a perpetual threat of drizzle. That can only mean one thing...

...it's St David's Day again!

As this week comes to a close in its traditional manner (although it matters less to moi at the moment as I am still on leave; we're off to Kew Gardens today), who better to celebrate the Patron Saint of Wales than our own Patron Saint of Forty-fags-a-day, Miss Bonnie Tyler?

Diolch Disgo Mae'n ddydd Gwener!*

Oh they do it, they do it, they do it, they do it, again and again
They do it, they do it, they do it, they do it, married men
Yeah

Ain't that the truth?

*Thank Disco It's Friday in Welsh

Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Hapus!

It's Saint David's Day, cariads - the day when all things Welsh are supposed to be celebrated, apparently. As it happens, all anyone across the UK has been thinking about today is the dreadful weather [it was -5C during the day today here in London, but thankfully the thermometer is slowly starting to rise; there are still blizzards and ice everywhere North of here, however], so there has been little chance of waving one's leek around!

Dim ots, on with the music, methinks - here are a few of our fave Welsh artists, doing what they do best! First up, help yourself to a bit of Sir Tom...

...one of Dame Shirl's shining moments:

...Miss Jenkins, her amazing tonsils, and a plethora of safety gays:

...some Cerys Matthews:

...and to finish (a bit of a surprising one, this), how about one of Wales' grandest, Dame Siân Phillips - singing?!

And, in case you feel the need to use any Welsh phrases on this special day - try this handy guide!

Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Hapus!

It is the national day for us Welshies - the feast of St David, patron saint of leeks and daffodils, or something-or-other.

Who better to lead the celebrations than our very own Patron Saint, Dame Shirley Bassey?! She is what she is, after all...

And here (with sound effects that sound a bit like she's singing from space) is her version of the Welsh National Anthem! All together, now...

Mae hen wlad fy nhadau yn annwyl i mi,
Gwlad beirdd a chantorion, enwogion o fri;
Ei gwrol ryfelwyr, gwladgarwyr tra mâd,
Tros ryddid gollasant eu gwaed.

Gwlad, Gwlad, pleidiol wyf i'm gwlad,
Tra môr yn fur i'r bur hoff bau,
O bydded i'r heniaith barhau.

Hen Gymru fynyddig, paradwys y bardd;
Pob dyffryn, pob clogwyn, i'm golwg sydd hardd
Trwy deimlad gwladgarol, mor swynol yw si
Ei nentydd, afonydd, i fi.

Gwlad, Gwlad, pleidiol wyf i'm gwlad,
Tra môr yn fur i'r bur hoff bau,
O bydded i'r heniaith barhau.

Os treisiodd y gelyn fy ngwlad dan ei droed,
Mae hen iaith y Cymry mor fyw ag erioed,
Ni luddiwyd yr awen gan erchyll law brad,
Na thelyn berseiniol fy ngwlad.

Gwlad, Gwlad, pleidiol wyf i'm gwlad,
Tra môr yn fur i'r bur hoff bau,
O bydded i'r heniaith barhau.

All about St David's Day.

She's no angel

One of the drawbacks of having such a busy diary (LGBT History Month events every other day last week) is that certain things "fall through the net" when attempting to catch up with my blogging.

Not least of these is the fact - shamefully - that I neglected to recognise yesterday was St David's Day (the national day for we Welsh). So, a belated "Hapus Dydd Gŵyl Dewi", one and all!

To redress the balance on this Tacky Music Monday, and in a desperate attempt to make going back to the tedium of the office in some way a less horrendous process, here's one of our own Patron Saints - the "Queen of Wales" herself Dame Shirley Bassey...

...but is she a devil or is she an angel - or just Born to be Bad?

Have a good week!

Nad ydych yn clywed dim eto

I'm having a bit of a late start, after the madness of the end-of-LGBT-History-Month "Glamour Factory" Ball last night.

However, we have double cause for celebration today...

This, ladies and germs, is my 3000th post on this multifarious, meandering miscellany of mischief that is Give 'em the old Razzle Dazzle!

Nobody - least of all I - would have imagined back in those distant days of MySpazz (when I began this blog, in 2007) that I would have carried on for this long...

Today is also Saint David's Day, the national day of we Welsh people - Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Hapus!

So who else could I choose to lead these auspicious festivities but the greatest living Welshwoman, and our own Patron Saint here at Dolores Delargo Towers, Dame Shirley Bassey?

Here's to the next 3000 posts - You Ain't Heard Nothing Yet, indeed!

There were times when life seemed so empty to me
But things are changing, now I’m free as a bird
You ain’t heard nothing yet

There were times when I felt like running away
But that’s too easy, so now I’m here to stay
You ain’t heard nothing yet

If you think
I’ll never sing another song
Never shed another tear
Then wait, you could be wrong
If you think
I’ll never break another heart
This is now my brand new start
And I’ll prove you wrong
I’ve known it all along

There were times when I wished I’m somebody else
Someone who’d do better, now I don’t care
You ain’t heard nothing yet

All my life I’ve known that I wasn’t alone
Luck’s on my side
Baby I’ll carry on
You ain’t heard nothing yet

If you think
I’ll never sing another song
Never shed another tear
Then wait, you could be wrong
If you think
I’ll never break another heart
This is now my brand new start
And I’ll prove you wrong
I’ve known it all along

If you think
I’ll never sing another song
Never shed another tear
Then wait, you could be wrong
If you think
I’ll never break another heart
This is now my brand new start
And I’ll prove you wrong
I’ve known it all along

‘Cause baby
You ain’t heard nothing yet!

It is the national day for my homeland of Wales, St David's Day.

Who better to celebrate it with than not one, but two, of its greatest vocal sons, Bryn Terfel and the ever-lovely Tom Jones, reminiscing about The Green Green Grass of Home?

And here, with something rather interesting down that Hot Leg, Jones the Trousers gives it some willy welly in a battle of the belters with Miss Tina Turner...

Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Hapus!

I'm the one on the right

Happy St David's Day to all you Welshies (and non-Welshies) out there!

To mark the occasion this year, here's another of our finest exports Miss Katherine Jenkins, giving us a most understated performance of the Evanescence classic Bring Me To Life at the Royal Variety Performance:

Even Google is celebrating!

Ah - daffs (our garden is blooming, as you can see in the picture above), leeks, Bryn Terfel, Calon Lan, Cerys Matthews, Eisteddfodau, Under Milk Wood, rugby, Ruth Madoc, lavabread, Sir Tom Jones, Dame Shirley Bassey... It is, of course, St David's Day!

To celebrate, here is a recent triumphal musical number by our very own First Lady of Song, The Girl From Tiger Bay:

Enjoy!

Dydd Gwyl Dewi hapus! Happy St David's Day!

To celebrate this day of all things Welsh, I just had to post a couple of classics by the wonderful Cerys Matthews:

Catatonia - Road Rage:

And in a brilliantly camp move by the BBC, they have posted Cerys's own recipe for Welsh Cakes on their site today...
