Come on, come on and join us please

The hardressers are permitted to open next week, and I'll be banging on their door!

My last weekend of freedom beckons, and despite the sad news today, we still need to gee ourselves up for a party...

...and who better to assist than three ladies who have no fear about possessing "big hair" - Thank Disco It's Friday!

Have a great weekend, peeps!

Totty of the Day

Happy 50th birthday today to Olympic hurdler and fellow Welshman Colin Jackson. Who could not love a man who "always could get his legs up higher - and wider - than anyone else"?

And indeed, rumours persist that the never-married Mr Jackson is in fact in a long-term relationship with fellow Olympian, swimmer Mark Foster, despite his denial in an interview several years ago that he was gay...

I leave it to the Three Degrees to have the last word on that one, methinks.

The taste of his skin, the gentle touch of his hand
Is worth waiting for, so I must understand
Yes you run, you just won't show love
That's the thing you're frightened of

He's a runner, he's a runner

Indeed.

Well baby, I'm ready

It has been a depressing week, for many reasons.

However, all bad things come to an end! We have a weekend in prospect - and tomorrow, a little coterie of "our gang" is going to salivate over the glorious Bejewelled Treasures: the Al Thani Collection at the V&A.

Keeping up that sparkly theme, let us all slip on our very slinkiest gold lurex gowns, and (in recognition of the fact that none other than today's birthday boy Pete Waterman, long before Mr Aitken and Mr Stock and "The Hit Factory", was the first to bring them to the UK) get this party started with one of our favourite girly groups here at Dolores Delargo Towers...

You can go sweet talk to the wind

It's almost over (bar the shouting)...

Another weekend beckons, and it's time to glitter and sparkle!

Who better to provide the inspiration for our party outfits but those mistresses of sequins and big wigs, the fantabulosa Three Degrees? Here's their classic (and one of our faves here at Dolores Delargo Towers), from this week in 1978 - thirty-five years ago - it's Giving Up Giving In:

You gotta walk before you run

I may not actually be working today, but there are still reasons to celebrate the end of another week - it is pay day (at last!!), and we are bedecking Dolores Delargo Towers for tomorrow's Eurovision Song Contest extravaganza! [Unfortunately the running order is a bit shit for the UK, with The Hump on first, but hey ho, we'll have a blast anyway!]

To get us in the mood today in a traditional fashion, it's time to shake out the biggest wigs, the shimmeriest satin and the longest fingernails - for now it is the turn of our long-standing house favourites The Three Degrees to set the scene. It's the Hi-NRG mix of Jump the Gun:

Think BIG

Another week staggers to a close, and we breathe a sigh.

This weekend, I think we need some big nails, big shoes, big lungs, big sparkly frocks and BIG wigs - and satisfying our every need in all categories, it could only be our favourite girl group The Three Degrees!!

Thank Disco It's Friday!

Have a great weekend, dear reader...

Following the river of death downstream

Thirty years ago this week, the charts were dominated by one song - Bright Eyes by Art Garfunkel. Everyone was sick to death of it, as I recall. I don't know anyone who actually bought it. But there it was, in the words of Phil Oakey "the black hit of space, sucking in the human race."

Evidence - if any were needed - of the eclecticism of music at the time were the "ones that got away"; those that hit the Top 5 in March 1979 but couldn't shift the big 'un.

These included The Jacksons - Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground), Racey - Some Girls, Sex Pistols - Something Else / Friggin' In The Riggin', Sister Sledge - He's The Greatest Dancer , Supertramp - The Logical Song, and this one (amongst my favourites):

Giving Up? Not these ladies!

Listening to Radio 2 this morning, and a rare gem sparkled out of the wilderness that is Michael Ball's mediocre Sunday Brunch show - which some fool put on in place of Michael Parkinson (as if this mish-mash could ever do the job!).

However, a brilliant song is a brilliant song - laydeez and gentlemen, the one and only Three Degrees!

Superb.

Diamonds, indeed

In my continuing effort to find a little something to brighten up the depression that is a Monday morning, here are the wonderful Three Degrees appearing in one of the cheesiest, campest videos I have seen in a while... Enjoy!
