Aperitivo or main course?

Having had a bit of a pottering day (well, afternoon actually, after I finally surfaced), I think it's time for the first selection in 2024 of the "newer" songs that have caught my ear of late...

First up, something glitzy and rather odd (as is my wont), but catchy nonetheless...

Speaking of "crazy" - house fave Miss Beth Ditto's back again!

I have to admit, this whole "K-Pop" music thing of the past few years has rather passed me by - the appeal of androgynous boys or identikit girl-groups posing over twee pop music is lost on me. However, this one's rather good:

A ditty I thought rather appealing, (in a sort-of-retro way), first heard (once again) thanks to the faboo Lisa Tarbuck show on Radio 2:

As it's only five weeks - and counting - till we're in Spain again, this Flamenco-tinged number from a German DJ (actually released last summer, but new to me) will do nicely by way of an aperitivo...

And, saving the best to last - another utterly brilliant mash-up by the marvellous Mr McClintock!

As ever, dear reader, let me know your thoughts...

Nieuw muziekfeest!

I said I'd try and get another one of my "Pick of the Pops" compilations done before the Festering Season crashes upon us, and 2023 crawls to its inevitable close - so let's have another look at/listen to some of the "newer" choons that have caught my ear of late, shall we? [I promise there'll be no "seasonal music"...]

Let's start as we mean to go on, with something quite kinky. Not sure even Billy Idol would have gone this far!

Next, yet another in a long line of choons that stands out from the crowd, yet turns out to be nowhere near new [it's from @adecadeago, in fact] - but I had never heard it before the faboo Liza Tarbuck played it on her Radio 2 show, so it's as good as...

And now for something completely different! A bizarre collaboration between an Italian folk-pop band and an operatic tenor? Right up our street, methinks:

Even more off-the-wall, we always love an unexpected rendition of something familiar:

...and we also love "kooky choreography"! [Thanks, Melanie!]

Marianne Faithfull is GOD. Thus it is only appropriate that a host of "alternative" artists have given their time and talent to release an album of covers of her songs as a fundraiser for her (as she recovers from "Long COVID"), including Cat Power, Iggy Pop, Joan As Police Woman, Lydia Lunch - and these two [duetting on one of my fave Marianne songs]!

Changing the tone completely, here's something extremely "retro" - yet utterly brand new! Giving a nod to the "blue-eyed soul revival" that swirled around a few years ago when Amy Winehouse, Duffy and their ilk ruled the roost, this Amsterdam band has it nailed:

And, leaving the best to last... This! Campness abounds!

As ever, dear reader, let me know your thoughts...

I'm a rebel just for kicks, now

Oo-er - had a couple of inches up my back passage this morning! Snow, that is. The extensive gardens here at Dolores Delargo Towers bear a passing resemblance to Narnia at the moment, but I have no doubt before too long it'll look more like a swamp as it all turns to slush...

To take the chill out of the situation, here's a lovely summery number from our "house band":

Perfect "Sunday Music".

Might be over now, but I feel it still

Two very happy fuchsias - Viva Ireland (foreground) and Bella Lydia .

Remarkably, the weather has again surprised us on a weekend. Just as everything was feeling gloomy and dank (which is customary, as Bonfire Night nears) with cuttingly chilly winds and a distinctly wintry air, so today the wind dropped, and it was almost balmy in the extensive gardens here at Dolores Delargo Towers. [Would ya believe, I actually found greenfly massed on the stems of some of our plants? In November!]

Methinks I should share some recent hits of a jolly nature that have caught my ear, to suit the mood...

Faboo!
