He Can't Find Love?! *

Wheeee!

Yessss! Another weekend's in sight, and it's a blessed relief, indeed.

Let's get the party started - with a bit of Turkish Delight [and birthday boy - he's 45 years old today!] worth breaking your Lenten/Ramadan fast for, dear reader!

As I said the first time I featured him: "Mr Boz is evidently Turkey's answer to Ricky Martin. Like 'Our Favourite Latino' I imagine he probably takes it up the pooper, too."

I'm still imagining that. A lot.

Thank Disco Turkey It's Friday!

Have a great weekend, dear reader!

Turkey Pulp?

I need an extra coffee "hit" to wake up on such a dark and gloomy morning - and WTF happened to another weekend?!

Hey ho. Sharing this day with a miscellany of "names" including Agnes Moorehead, Dave Brubeck, Osbert Sitwell, Jonathan King, Henryk Górecki, King Henry VI, Lynn Fontanne, Will Hay, Nick Park, Nikolaus Harnoncourt and Ira Gershwin, it would have been the 90th birthday today of an old fave - the first "exhibit" in the Dolores Delargo Towers Museum of Camp, no less - "Turkey's answer to Liberace", Zeki Müren!

On this Tacky Music Monday, in this clip he appears to be inviting the viewer into his wardrobe [closet?] - maybe this is a "ululating version" of I Am What I Am..?

Much more fun is this clever mash-up, between the "coiffeured one" and the theme from Pulp Fiction (Miserlou)!

That should help with the waking-up process...

Have a good week, dear reader.

It's all balls...

In addition to the shock announcement from the Scandi superstars ABBA that they have recorded two new songs for a forthcoming performance tour featuring "avatars" of Benny, Bjorn, Frida and Agnetha, so more blockbuster news has arrived from Sweden! From today's Guardian:
Turks have reacted with undisguised glee to what many have described as an official – and certainly long overdue – confession from Stockholm that Sweden’s signature national dish is, in fact, Turkish...

"Swedish meatballs are actually based on a recipe King Charles XII brought home from Turkey in the early 18th century," [the official Twitter account administered by the Swedish Institute] revealed abruptly and for no immediately apparent reason.
I'm not bothered - I love a bit of Turkish meat, myself!

Speaking of which...

Mr Boz is evidently Turkey's answer to Ricky Martin. Like Our Favourite Latino I imagine he probably takes it up the pooper, too.

Seasonal Turkey

It's a frozen, grey scene out there this morning, and I really am not looking forward to venturing out into it to crawl to work.

Let's cheer ourselves up a little on this Tacky Music Monday, in the glittering be-quiffed world of the faboo Zeki Müren ("Turkey's answer to Liberace", and my first ever "exhibit" in the Dolores Delargo Towers Museum of Camp six years ago)!

It translates as "Ah, damn these (love) songs". Apparently.

Thought for the day

A song that seems appropriate, from Tears for Fears:

"Hide my head I want to drown my sorrow."

Mad world, indeed.

Our first exhibit at the Museum...

Today, I am proud to announce the inaugural blog of the much-anticipated Museum of Camp!

Of course you only have to look back through the annals [sic] of the evolution of Dolores Delargo Towers to find that it already exists in reality - but over in the Museum, I plan to create a more permanent home for our more cherished icons. It is merely a "work in progress" as we speak (many articles are just "parked" there at present), but with luck, determination and good old British spunk [!], this is the start of something fantabulosa...

And so, my salivating reader [sic], let us explore the wondrous world of Mr Zeki Müren, "The Turkish Liberace"!

Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas any more

I am looking forward to Polari tonight - apparently it's Dorothy Night, so I fully expect flying monkeys, Miss Gulch and a few Totos...

And to mark this occasion here are a few appropriate little gems.

First up, a version of the Wizard of Oz in Turkish...

...and a hilarious camp alternative ending courtesy of Mad TV...

And to finish, a bizarre combination of a sexy Dorothy and really terrible rapping - and all of this in Hebrew!
