Oh wow! As we wallow in the ongoing heatwave across the UK (temperatures are due to hit 87F/31C today - and 97F/36C tomorrow and Tuesday!), there is even more reason to celebrate - for none other than the uber-talented David Hasselhoff is 70 years old today.

All hail The Hoff! - the man who (according to him, anyhow) played a major part in the fall of the Berlin Wall, and whose career surpassed Baywatch and Knight Rider to reach the dizzying heights of cinematic glory with the likes of The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, Ted 2, Kickin' It Old Skool and Piranha 3DD...

...and this masterpiece!

Just time to send our hearty best wishes to that towering talent Mr David Hasselhoff - pivotal influence in the fall of the Berlin Wall, classically-trained actor, talent show judge, panto star and musician par exellence - who celebrated his 60th birthday today!

I make no excuses for featuring this all-time classic again to mark this milestone:

Historical Hoff

A double celebration today - not only is it twenty years since the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 that led the sea-change in ending the Cold War, but it is also the 33rd anniversary of the invention of the Jheri Perm (the "curly perm") by the American Jheri Redding, founder of Redken and Nexxus.

And by a strange twist of fate, these two landmarks come together quite neatly in the form of none other than David Hasselhoff!



Famously, The Hoff (uber-hunk star of TV's Knight Rider and Baywatch, m'Lud) complained in an interview with a German magazine that he felt his historic role in bringing down the wall had not been sufficiently recognised. At this point I am trying not to laugh...

Suffice to say, a whole generation of East Germans (whose musical diet at the time must have been most unusual) did indeed idolise the man, and his song Looking for Freedom was a massive hit on both sides of the divide throughout that fateful summer of '89.

So, maybe as well as lauding the role of the German people themselves, or that of President Gorbachev, in the fall of the wall - we should call for The Hoff's legendary influence to be acknowledged once and for all!

As if all this blah about remakes and sequels wasn't bad enough [apparently someone is planning to remake Ab Fab, and talk about the Brideshead Revisited film is causing all around us to bleed from the ears...], now there is apparently a third sequel to possibly the most stupid horror film ever made, Anaconda, starring none other than that walking parody David Hasselhoff!

Well, obviously it couldn't possibly be a brain, nor a personality, so I wonder what on earth it was...? Maybe it was his curly perm...

On a day when the news is full of grim-faced debate about knife crime, and the bigoted bishops in the Catholic Church are bashing gay rights again (the adoption debate), it is refreshing to find that some things can still make you laugh out loud!



"Action hero" Steven Segal and his band are on tour! I can't wait...
