Totally at your whim

"If I ruled the world, every day would be the first day of Spring..."

Hoorah! The weekend's almost upon us - and, for a change a) we have no events, exhibitions, parties or anything planned; and b) the forecast is for more sunshine!

I think a little celebration is in order - and since it happened to have been the (gulp) 80th birthday yesterday of the sole surviving Pointer Sister, Ruth Pointer, let's give the girls the spotlight to shimmy in, and...

...Thank Disco It's Friday!

Have a great weekend, dear reader!

Although I search myself, it's always someone else I see

Probably fell off those boots.

Oh, dear. Poor old Dame Elton John's in hospital after a fall at his villa...

As it is my last day of freedom before the madness of work kicks in again tomorrow after a lovely nineteen-day break, we need something sparkly and joyful on this Tacky Music Bank Holiday Monday!

Fitting the bill in a most appropriate manner, here's the estimable combination of Cher and the Pointer Sisters with a "get well soon card" for Sir Elton!

Have a great day, dear reader, whatever you do - it's the last bank holiday till Xmas!

All of my systems are down

Thank fuck for that. The most horrible week in work - shortened by the Festering Season or otherwise - is over. Yay!

We really deserve an incredibly catchy choon to get us in the mood for a party, and this is perfect... Thank Disco It's Friday!

Look what you're doing to me
I'm utterly at your whim
All of my defences down

Your camera looks through me
With it's X-ray vision
And all systems run aground

All I can manage to push from my lips
Is a stream of absurdities
Every word I intended to speak
Winds up locked in a circuitry

No way to control it
It's totally automatic
Whenever you're around

I'm walking blindfolded
Completely automatic
All of my systems are down
Down, down, down
Automatic (automatic)
Automatic (automatic)

What is this madness
That makes my motor run
And my legs too weak to stand
I go from sadness to exhilaration
Like a robot at your command

My hands perspire
And shake like a leaf
Up and down goes my temperature
I summon doctors to get some relief
But they tell me there is no cure
They tell me

No way to control it
It's totally automatic
Whenever you're around

I'm walking blindfolded
Completely automatic
All of my systems are down
Down, down, down
Automatic (automatic)
Automatic (automatic)

Automatic, automatic
Automatic, automatic

RIP, Anita Pointer (23rd January 1948 – 31st December 2022)

Have a great weekend, dear reader!

We'll put all other things aside

Here we are again, dear reader...

No sooner had I slung the work laptop in the cupboard where it belongs, than I'm hauling it wearily back out again onto the desk for another five days of joy, or so it seems.

Never mind, eh? on this Tacky Music Monday we have another of those very clever video-editing-geeks to thank for this remarkable mash-up (featuring, among many, many others today's birthday boy Fred Astaire) - just the thing to lift the spirits:

Excited is not the word for a Monday. Have a good week, chums...

I'm about to lose control and I think I like it

This "new improved [sic] Blogger interface" is pissing me off - another old blog post (this time from Saturday) has moved itself for some incomprehensible reason to the top of the Reading List! I have reported this (twice) to the gnomes at Google, but I very much doubt there'll be a swift response...

Sigh.

Never mind, even if it is likely to be a wet and mizzly one, there is another weekend looming, today is pay day, and I am off to the first (socially distanced) Polari since February (this time at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern as the Southbank Centre remains closed) tonight!

Time to get the party started, methinks. We may not be able to go there at the moment, given the circumstances, but what better way to open the celebrations that with the campest flight to Spain ever - and ¡Gracias Disco, es viernes!

Have a great weekend, dear reader!

If you want more, more, more, more

Daaahlings, the weekend is almost upon us - just one more week to go and we will be jetting off to the sunshine! Tonight we have the first Polari of 2014 to look forward to, it's pay day, and all is right in the world.

Especially if we grab the biggest can of Elnett in the world, tease our hairdos to the ceiling, and kick up our silver-strappy-sandal-clad heels in the company of the ever-wonderful Pointer Sisters (whose founding member Anita celebrated her 66th birthday yesterday).

Let's Jump for joy, and Thank Disco It's Friday!

And I just cant hide it

Having finally been restored - after almost 48 hours - to the wonders of the interwebs this afternoon, courtesy of a nice young gentleman from Virgin Media with nimble fingers, I note that no-one missed me.

Hey ho.

On checking things that may have passed me by while away, I stumbled across this fab - if brief - trailer for the new movie by that camp Spanish genius Pedro Almodóvar.

It's called I'm So Excited. It's a musical. It is set in the midst of a mid-air disaster. It's lead characters are trolley-dollies. Antonio Banderas is in it. It just has to be good!

All I can manage to push from my lips is a scream of absurdity

Another weekend arrives at last - and I have a couple of interesting events to look forward to.

Tonight, the gay superhero that is Peter Tatchell is addressing a meeting of the Gay and Lesbian Humanist Association (GALHA) on the subject "Equal Rights" - are we there yet?, which should be fascinating. Then tomorrow we are trolling off to Sadlers Wells for the much-anticipated ballet The Most Beautiful Thing, with music especially written by Pet Shop Boys - whew!

But at some stage I am just going to have to make time to don my best tulle ra-ra skirt and padded shoulders and pay a dance-tastic tribute to Miss Ruth Pointer, who is 65 years old tomorrow!

I love, love, love The Pointer Sisters - Thank Disco It's Friday!

Tonight's the night we're gonna make it happen

Happy 64th birthday today to the lovely Ruth Pointer of the Pointer Sisters.

What better excuse do I need to post this..? Happy Friday!
