Earworms, again...

Gawd only knows what's going on here, but I could sit and watch it all day

SUNSHINE!!!

The weather out there is glorious - it's predicted to hit 30C tomorrow - and I'm trapped indoors [except for frequent fag breaks, of course] dealing with dull council business. Oh, for a decent Lottery win....

Never mind, eh? I'm in the mood for some music - so how about a soupçon of choons that have caught my ear of late?

First up, a little number that I picked not because the singer is trans [pertinent in this countdown week to Gay/LGBT Pride], and certainly not because of her vocal - ahem - talents, but because... it made me smile [and lord knows, we need a bit of that!]:

Next - a REAL treat! It's the new single from everyone's favourite campsters, Erasure!

Here's a band who sound remarkably like Talking Heads, with a naughtily-titled song (a position with which some of us may be familiar)...

...more sunshine and happiness, courtesy of Mr Sparro and the oddest selection of "safety gays" in the business:

...and, finally - "take it to the mutha-fucking dance floor!"

Enjoy - and as ever, let me know what you think, dear reader.

You're so fuckin' special

We are well overdue another dip into some of the newer musical highlights that have hoved into my consciousness recently...

As the sparkle-dust has settled after the Diamond Jubilee celebrations last weekend, so another glittering season begins - the countdown to World Pride in London in a month's time! We've begun our preparations in earnest, and it should be spectacular (but more of that nearer the time!). Let's kick off with this snazzy little number [I have no idea what the music is, btw 2019 update - the music is Blue Jeans (Smims & Belle Remix) by Lana Del Ray] featuring a favourite stud-muffin Eliad Cohen and his chums in one of his by now notorious club ads, hailing the opening of Tel Aviv Pride on 8th June. Whew!

Thanks to a heads-up from the lovely Mike over at Pop Trash Addicts, here's the new single and video from Mr Cosmo Jarvis (of Gay Pirates fame). Wandering round what looks like Bournemouth [it's actually Torbay] - in some very revealing tights indeed - the single is called Love This. And I do:

There's nothing to beat a bit of gay nude wrestling on a Sunday, is there? And that's just what the fantabulosa Irrepressibles serve up for our delectation, to accompany their super-cool new single Arrow:

Now, breathe.

The next song may be a bit of a departure for me, musically - but some tunes just have a habit of getting into one's head and just refuse to get out again. This is indeed the case with the Karen Carpenter-soundy-likey Rumer (remarkably not from down-home USA but a Pakistan-born British singer) with her cover of an obscure Jimmy Webb song about an even more obscure 60s singer songwriter:

Back to the campness! It's got pogo-ing monks. It has Muscle Marys. It even has a cameo appearance from Terence Stamp! It's the new single from Hot Chip! All together now: "Do I look like a rapper?"

Another epic video accompanies the newest single from the lovely out-gay Sam Sparro. It's a catchy, moody song (as we should expect), but I can't wait to hear some remixes...

She has a reputation for being a weirdo, without doubt, and so it was inevitable that Miss Macy Gray would turn her inimitable attention to that "anthem of the outsider", Radiohead's classic Creep. This is taken from her forthcoming album Covered, in which she tackles songs by among others Eurythmics, Arcade Fire and Metallica(!)...

To finish, it's our favourite Big Willy! Mr Will Young's new single has taken him along a slightly more funky route than usual, with great results. Let's hope this will get him back into the top of the charts where he belongs - fabulously camp video, too!

As always, enjoy! And let me know your thoughts...

L-U-V

Before we get to the smash of smashes, let me indulge myself in just a few of the recent newer hits that have passed this way...

Only on Gaydar Radio could possibly the best new choon in a long time - given their playlist's dreary descent of late into "Rap but remixed" territory à la David Guetta's recent output - be a remix of a 45-year-old song by Lulu! It's the Hoxton Whores/The Knievels masterful mix of Love Loves To Love Love:

Here's a little blast from the past - it's a the excellent new single from St Etienne (their first in eight years apparently), the rather sweet and boppy Tonight, produced by Xenomania and mixed by Richard X:

Arch gayer Mr Sam Sparro returns with a vengeance with the fabulously funky The Shallow End:

Just because we need a little reminder that somewhere in the world there is some warm weather - here's the latest smash sensation from Brazil, the should-be-sexy-but-actually-isn't Michel Teló with the snappily-titled (and quite contagious) Ai se eu te pego (meaning 'Oh if I catch you' in Portuguese):

And so, finally, here it is - the new one from "Our Glorious Leader"! It's the long-awaited new single from Madonna - Give Me All Your Luvin'! But was it worth the wait?

Thoughts..?

Pick of the Pops this week

After the sad couple of blogs recently (RIP Gerry Rafferty and Mick Karn), I think we are overdue a little jollying-up in this New Year.

So how about a brand new Dolores Delargo Towers "Pick of the Pops" for this first week of 2011..?

First up, a rather summery collaboration between the French DJ Antoine Clamaran and Spanish trashy club queen Soraya. Perfect for dreaming about our holiday in Spain in a month's time...

Next, one that I heard last month but is rather growing on me - the new one from Duran Duran:

Now here is a real treat - one of the BBC's lauded new talents of 2011 to look out for. Laydeez and Gentlemen, I give you the powerful tonsils of Mr James Blake!

Then of course there is this very bizarre effort from Mr Sam Sparro, who I think may have been inhaling a bit too much of that day-glo makeup...

And finally, one from the archives, yet most welcome to brighten up our day. Ex-Alcazar singer and all-round camp icon Miss (unpronounceable) Annikafiore!

I’m only a poor little Sparro

To celebrate in the usual way the horrible tradition that is Monday morning (even though I am off all week!), here’s one of my favourite songs and videos of the moment. An infectious little number by the stylish (and very cute) Sam Sparro - Black and Gold:
