Oh dear. Mr Henry Fambrough has spun off departed for the glitterball-illuminated "Discotheque-a-Go-Go" in Fabulon. Who? I hear you ask...

The last surviving member of the original Detroit Spinners, his distinctive baritone was to be heard on every record and at every live appearance by the band, from 1954 to April 2023, when he finally retired. Phew!

By way of a tribute, and to get the weekend off with an appropriate bang, here's a double-bill of the group's biggest hits here in the UK - so Thank Disco It's Friday!

Hoorah! The weekend's almost here.

My sister, History Boy and I are headed off tomorrow to visit The Mother in Portsmouth (bastard train strikes having prevented us from doing so last weekend for Mothers' Day, or indeed, her opportunity to come to London). The weather looks grim, but I'm certain we'll make the most of it.

We need a little boost to get us in the appropriate party mood - and who better to provide it than the Detroit Spinners? It's another weekend in prospect, peeps. I'll be going to the first (of several, no doubt) Bowie-themed event of 2013 at the BFI tomorrow, and it's apparently Spring (whoo-hoo!) - although it doesn't feel like it - but before all that, as is our tradition here at Dolores Delargo Towers, it's time to boogie!

With the sad news this week of the death of Bobbie Smith, the original lead singer of The (Detroit) Spinners, let's tease out our Afro wigs [order yours from "Star-Glow" above!], get our finest powder-blue dancing suits on and do a bit of a twirl in tribute to the great showman...

Ah, weekends, how we love them... Especially Bank Holiday ones!

Continuing a hectic week, I have tickets to be part of the audience for Radio 2's Friday Night is Music Night celebration of the almost 70-year-old radio programme Desert Island Discs tonight, which should be fab, and tomorrow we're all off en masse to Shoeburyness, Southend and Leigh-on-Sea for a day at the sea-side.
