Get ready (Baby) tonight

The weekend is looming - and it's just seven days tomorrow till we're off to Spain..!

To lead (moon-walk?) us into the party mood, who better than the eternally uplifting Soul Train alumni Shalamar? That'll do nicely.

Thank Disco It's Friday!

Have a fab weekend, dear reader, whatever dance you do!

Better than the first time

Whew!

With this morning's work webinar over and done with, and after a fairly disjointed and quite draining week - it is time to start planning the party!

What better than a dose of the fancy footwork of Shalamar to help get us in the mood?!

It's their Second Time Around, it seems. Lord knows what went wrong the first time.

Thank Disco It's Friday!

Have a great weekend, dear reader!

Fish were biting at the time when catching wasn't enough

Another weekend hoves into view; and it's another milestone - the last Bank Holiday we have in the UK until Xmas! But at least it is a nice long weekend to look forward to, and with the added bonus that for once I've been paid before the break, rather than afterwards...

All this and, sharing the day as he does with a weird combination of fellow celebrants that includes Tolstoy, national treasure Stephen Fry, novelist A. S. Byatt, R2D2 (the late Kenny Baker), politician and abolitionist William Wilberforce, transgender campaigner Marsha P Johnson, caricaturist Max Beerbohm, Jean-Michel Jarre and Yasser Arafat, it's the birthday today of the cool'n'sexy one from Shalamar, Mr Jeffrey Daniel.

Thus, we have a perfect excuse to delve into the archives of the band who preserved Disco for the 80s generation, and Thank Disco It's Bank Holiday Friday!

There it is, there it is
What took us so long, ooh, to find each other, baby?
There it is, there it is
This time I'm not wrong

In the sea of love we set our sails when waters were up
Two in search of love with no direction
Fish were biting at the time when catching wasn't enough
We couldn't make a sport of our affection

And who could change that we would sail into each other
Ooh girl, I never felt the wave of love so strong
And this love I never felt in any other
I trust it like the light, how this guides the ship to land
I found it when you touched my hand

There it is
What took us so long for a love so strong?
There it is, there it is
This time I'm not wrong

That's poetry, that is.

Have a good one, dear reader!

Get ready

Another week is over, thankfully. Another week closer to our holiday...

We have the very first outing of the year for "London's peerless gay literary salon" Polari to look forward to this evening, and no doubt a little merriment and libation to accompany it.

To bring us up into the party mood, we need something uplifting - and who better but the quintessential party animals, tomorrow's birthday girl Jody Watley, and her chums the moon-walking Jeffrey Daniel and the smooth Howard Hewett?

They are Shalamar (of course) - and their classic A Night to Remember! Thank Disco It's Friday!

Have a fab weekend, whatever dance you do...

Not like the first time

Ahh... Another long, and increasingly, depressingly, dark week is staggering to its close.

To celebrate, we need a dose of the fancy footwork of Shalamar to help get us in the party spirit.

It's their Second Time Around, it seems. Lord knows what went wrong the first time.

Thank Disco It's Friday! Have a good one...

Get ready. Tonight.

Gazing with amazement out of the window on what looks like a monsoon, we can take comfort that it is the end of another week (OK, OK, three days) back in work...

Let us start our party planning right here - in the company of three super-cool individuals who restored funky dance music back to the upper echelons of the charts where it belonged thirty years ago this month. It's white tuxedos, over-coiffed hair, cocktails and bow ties (and, strangely, a bed big enough for three!) all round - as Shalamar take us on a Night To Remember. Thank Disco It's Friday!!

A classic.

Have a great weekend, whatever you do!

Make that move right now, baby

This has felt like one of the longest weeks, ever - but now it's the weekend at last! Here at Dolores Delargo Towers, we are throwing our doors open to guests in celebration of our first sweet peas coming into bloom (any excuse for a party!), and on Sunday I will be going to see the fantabulosa Eve Ferret (of the New Romantic cabaret duo Biddie and Eve - read my blog about them back in January 2009) live on stage!

Meanwhile let us celebrate in traditional fashion, with some snazzy dance moves and inappropriate clothing, as sported by the one-time-world-conquering Shalamar - Thank Disco It's Friday!

Have a great weekend!
