Where the party always started

Another dull, dark week is sloping slowly to its conclusion. We're sick of the sight of Ursula von der Leyen and Emmanuel Macron, as well as Kay Burley, Greta Thunberg and that orange twat squatting in the White House. Shit carols and Mariah-fucking-Carey are unavoidable, it looks increasingly likely London's going into "tier three" COVID restrictions in time for the Festering Season, and we're wearing black armbands in mourning for the lovely Babs Windsor - what we really need is a party!

What better way to imagine such a thing than with a classic number from the late, great Dan Hartman (who would have been 70 years old this week), accompanied by a video of a semi-naked Ryanne Phillippe cavorting in the decadence of Studio 54?

Thank Disco It's Friday, indeed!

Have a good weekend, dear reader!

There's a new day on the other side (yeah)

I could sit and watch this all day

This week has dragged, but the end is in sight...

As we gather ourselves for the celebrations, let's perk ourselves up in the company of a semi-naked Ryan Phillippe [in the film 54], and the estimable talents of today's birthday boy Dan Hartman (RIP) - and Thank Disco It's Friday!

Help me escape this feelin' of insecurity
I need you so much but I don't think you really need me
But if we all stand up in the name of love
And state the case of what we're dreamin' of
I've got to say I only dream of you
But like a thief in the night
You took away the love that I knew

Relight my fire (Well)
Your love is my only desire
Relight my fire
Cos I need your love

Turn back the time to the days when our love was new
Do you remember?
No matter what was happenin' I was there with you
But if we all stand up for what we believe
And maybe live within our possibilities
The world would be wild for the dream
So baby don't turn away
Listen to what I gotta say

Relight my fire
Your love is my only desire
Relight my fire
Cos I need... oh I need your love

Strong enough to walk on through the night (yeah)
There's a new day on the other side (yeah)
You got to have hope in your soul
Just keep on walkin' yeah, just keep on walkin' yeah

Relight my fire
Your love is my only desire
Relight my fire
Cos I need your love

Have a great weekend, dears.

Full-frontal attack

It may only have been a short post-Bank Holiday week in work, but heavens - has it dragged?!

Never mind, another weekend (and, after the drizzly and grey spell of the last few days - fingers crossed - a sunny one) is looming! Let's grab our very best chiffon, satin and lurex outfits, spray our hair into submission - and boogie on with one of the classic dancefloor-fillers from the Studio 54 era...

Here's Ferrara [whoooo?] and Love Attack - Thank Disco It's Friday!

Have a good one.

End of term

My School Disco looked nothing like this
Glee-style ‘prom nights’ are just school discos repackaged for the gullible, it has emerged.

Teenagers confirmed that when you strip away the expensive American-influenced bullshit, a ‘prom night’ is just a room full of spotty people trying to touch each other’s genitals.

16-year-old Stephen Malley said: “I stood around with my friends talking about console games. I tried talking to Gemma Leeson at the end but it was weird and we were both scared.

“I thought wearing a suit would make me more confident but it just reminded me of when I had to go to court for stealing a hard drive from Maplin.

“In summary, no major rites of passage were completed. It was just like my dad described his school discos except afterwards I went home and watched internet pornography.”

Parent Emma Bradford said: “I thought proms were just an American thing, but apparently I have to shell out £500 because my daughter’s done a few GCSEs at a comprehensive in Romford.

“In my day you had a disco where all the boys stood around awkwardly in ironed jeans and the girls all looked as though they were wearing clown make-up.

“That’s unless you were one of the cool kids who had to have their stomach pumped after drinking a bottle of Smirnoff in the toilets.”
The Daily Mash.

Of course.

Feel the rhythm, check the ride

Over at the Dolores Delargo Towers Museum of Camp, there is a little photographic exhibit in tribute to that ill-fated "superclub" Studio 54, the epitome of the Disco Years, which opened 35 years ago yesterday.

As we trundle gleefully towards another weekend full of partying and jollity, let us grab the Elnett and oh-so-tasteful suits and frocks, and boogie on down with the number that just about sums up the whole era - Le Freak by Chic...

Thank Disco It's Friday!

According to Nile Rodgers, the irony of the song is that he and Bernard Edwards only came up with it after they had been refused entry past the sacred "velvet rope" at Studio 54. Apparently once they had been turned away, they started jamming a song in the street with the lyric "Fuck You" - and eventually it sounded so good, they re-recorded the chant as "Freak Out".

The song went on to be the top dancefloor-filler at the club, the band were never refused entry again - and the rest, they say, is history...

Have a great weekend, folks!
