A smile on your face?

On this grey and gloomy Sunday, with the nights creeping in far too early now that British Summer Time is officially over and the clocks have gone back, I think it's time for another showcase of some of the "newer" choons that have caught my ear of late.

Let's open with something sleazy, shall we? How about a bit of "bump'n'grind", courtesy of Sam Smith and Kim Petras..?

I've always loved the work of master mixer Dave Aude - and here's his latest:

For some bizarre reason Ukrainian pop sensation, the very lovely Max Barskih [see here and here] has just changed his name to "Mick Sunday" - but at least he's producing new music in the midst of all the horror his home nation is suffering. In his own words: "This war brought great changes to my life. Feeling negative emotions and constant stress, you seem to forget about the existence of joy, happiness and love... I hope this music can put a smile on your face and put you in a good mood.” It works!

You just know when you see the name Shapeshifters that you're in for a treat - and with this remake of an old Talking Heads classic, I'm not disappointed!

Finally, how about a sizeable portion of Robbie? Yes please!

As ever, dear reader - let me know your thoughts...

Avant-garde, never fade

Easter. If the shops weren't still closed thanks to the continued lockdown, they'd be shut anyway today. And it's getting colder again, so the garden's a less-than-enticing prospect.

There's nothing for it, but to entertain ourselves - how about a little round-up of some of the "newer" music that has caught my ear of late? That'll do nicely...

First up a little apéritif courtesy of Mr Boy George! He was there. Where were you?

Here's someone from RuPaul's Drag Queen UK [I wouldn't know; this bloody Drag Race thing seems to have been going for a hundred years and I have never watched it] with an "amusing" name, and a rather good choon:

Courtesy of Ana Matronic's Dance Devotion show on Radio 2 [again!] is this very weird little number from a band from... Totnes:

From the ridiculous to the sublime - an oddity from Brazil:

A cool little number from one of our favourite Ukrainian hunks, with a most magnificent video:

and finally...saving the best for last [and speaking of Drag Race, a bit of a team up between our beloved "house band" Steps and RuPaul's "right-hand woman"!

Enjoy! And, as ever, let me know your thoughts...

Let's hear it for them...

I am well overdue a Pick of the Pops selection, and this week it appears to be the turn of the boys!

For a change there are no fierce ruling divas, no bubblegum-pop girlie groups from far-off countries, and no trilling Kate-Bush-wannabees - just testosterone...

Possibly the biggest star in New Zealand at the moment (name another) is a certain Dane Rumble. Yes, he is quite cute in a sheep-shagger sort of way, and no, I don't usually like his kind of music. However this remix of his new single is very catchy indeed!

Blake Lewis was apparently a contender on something called American Idol. Eww! He didn't win. However, this little collaboration number is not bad at all...

A bizarre choice for me I know (please excuse the rapping), but I couldn't resist the "hook" on this new one by the West London bad boy calling himself "Example":

The very lovely "Baker" is very much a new discovery - this is only his his second single. [What is it with these "one-name-artists" these days? His real name is Christopher Charles Baker, according to his website... But he's gorgeous. I'll forgive him.]

Last - and most definitely not least - a recent discovery all the way from the Ukraine, courtesy of Henry over at Barbarella's Galaxy, Mr Max Barskih! I don't care where he's from, he is mine...

Apparently he makes music too.

Enjoy!
