L-U-V

Before we get to the smash of smashes, let me indulge myself in just a few of the recent newer hits that have passed this way...

Only on Gaydar Radio could possibly the best new choon in a long time - given their playlist's dreary descent of late into "Rap but remixed" territory à la David Guetta's recent output - be a remix of a 45-year-old song by Lulu! It's the Hoxton Whores/The Knievels masterful mix of Love Loves To Love Love:

Here's a little blast from the past - it's a the excellent new single from St Etienne (their first in eight years apparently), the rather sweet and boppy Tonight, produced by Xenomania and mixed by Richard X:

Arch gayer Mr Sam Sparro returns with a vengeance with the fabulously funky The Shallow End:

Just because we need a little reminder that somewhere in the world there is some warm weather - here's the latest smash sensation from Brazil, the should-be-sexy-but-actually-isn't Michel Teló with the snappily-titled (and quite contagious) Ai se eu te pego (meaning 'Oh if I catch you' in Portuguese):

And so, finally, here it is - the new one from "Our Glorious Leader"! It's the long-awaited new single from Madonna - Give Me All Your Luvin'! But was it worth the wait?

Thoughts..?

  1. ooh let me get my teeth stuck into this …

I love Tonight by Saint Etienne - it was available from their website as a free download for a limited time - I'm really excited for their new album as I think it's brilliant.

I will listen to the Sam Sparro song and also the remix of Lulu, but let's move onto Madonna, or MDNA

First off I think there's a feeling of backlash against Madge - for those old like me (and Madonna) this is nothing new, I remember the backlash back in 1992 when she released the Erotica album (and Sex book & Body of Evidence film)

I remember being off work poorly the day the book came out and This Morning with Richard & Judy had a phone-in with people lamenting the waning of her muse - phone-call after phone-call saying her new material wasn't a patch on Like A Virgin or True Blue - yet now Erotica is looked back upon as one of her classic albums.

You were kind enough to provide me with a copy of her leaked version of Give Me All Your Love (as it was then titled) and I have to say I love it - It quickly became one of my most played songs of last year.
Typically I think I liked the song better in the leaked version before the raps were added.

I do love the video and look forward to her SuperBowl performance - people (I mean Paul Burston) are saying it's like Toni Basil's Mickey - but he says that like it's a bad thing??

Kandi Kane Baxter is working this weekend on a spoof of the video - which will be released on Wednesday.

    xx

  2. I never listen to Gaydar Radio - I like more reflective music when I'm at home but I like the Lulu/Hoxton Whores remix.

The Sam Sparro song is fab

  3. I am so glad you like the selection! Sam Sparro is sadly written off as a bit of a "one-hit wonder" but i think he has a great voice.

You are so right in your comments abot the "Madge backlash" - just take a look at the blog Henry posted about the so-called GaGa fans and their loathsome campaign of hate. The tabloids take the piss out of her age, yet leave Cher, Tina Turner, Debbie Harry and the rest (all older) alone. I think the song may need a few more listens before I take it fully to my heart, but that has been the case before with many Madonna songs and they usually end up embedded in my brain forever. L-U-V Madonna, indeed! Jx

PS My first thought was also "oh Mickey, you're so fine"...
