Old broads misbehavin'

Today would have been the 90th birthday of one of our "patron saints" the fantabulosa Bea Arthur.

Suffice to say, my thoughts on the late Miss Arthur have been featured here a few times over the years, so without further ado, here's one of her lesser-known "double acts" - with the magnificent Madame...

...the creation (of course) of the late, great Wayland Flowers.

  1. Awe...she was the beat, and enjoyed Wayland and Madame in my youth.
In other news...just watched a clip of Prince Charles doing the weather, What is that all about? Huge story over here :)

    1. Madame was a classic creation - and, thankfully, has been recently resurrected in the capable hands of Rick Skye (aka Slice O'Minnelli). Hope she/he comes to London again one day!

PS As for Charlie doing the weather, it was something to do with an offical visit to the BBC Scotland studios, but I understand that the footage has "gone viral" (to use one of those hackneyed phrases beloved of old journalists trying to be hip) across the globe. What larks!

  2. When I saw the title of this post, I assumed there would be a song and dance routine starring you and Thombeau.

    1. Is that the Kessler Twins one or the Barbra and Donna you were thinking of? Jx

As if I could picture you two any other way.

  3. Have loved Miss Arthur since Maude, all those years ago. Saw her solo stage show several years ago, and am sooo glad I did! The audience was made up entirely of gay men and little old ladies. Of course.

    1. We went to the the show when it came to the Savoy Theatre in 2003, and I am very glad indeed! Our audience was entirely similar (we went to see Stritch the same year, and the demographic was also old ladies and queens)! Jx

  5. Madame is another childhood memory that I'd all but forgotten about - that's one of the pleasures of these blogs, little gems like this that I'd buried away somewhere deep.

    1. You can be reassured, if there is a camp memory of old I will endeavour to feature it! Jx
