Lordy! Brooke Shields, child actress, model and possessor of some of the most famous eyebrows this side of the late Margaux Hemingway, "beard" to the stars (Michael Jackson, George Michael, John Travolta), is 50 years old today. News to make one feel old...

She's rather more talented than is generally credited - among other things, she's stepped several times as a replacement into roles on Broadway, and she's surprisingly good in broad comedy, as in her recurring turn as a trailer-trash mom on the sitcom The Middle. Brenda Starr, however, is another story...

I just wish she'd stop selling furniture at La Z Boy. Her eyebrows deserve better
Needless to say, the reference means nothing in the UK. I looked it up, and wished I hadn't. Any company that can get her to say something as vacuous as "It used to be exciting when La-Z-Boy furniture reclined. Now it’s just as exciting when it doesn’t" deserves contempt. Jx
