Scilla peruviana (again) - on full breathtaking display [click to embiggen]
The first sunny day since we've been back, and it was inevitable that I'd spend it in the extensive gardens here at Dolores Delargo Towers! We now have two sets of display shelves - and each needed a bit of propping-up to avoid them shifting on our uneven, sloping paving, so all the pots needed to come off. Then came the job of gathering up the plants again (and more), to arrange them on and around the shelving for maximum display and to disguise the edges. At each turn, the crud and litter (mainly from the bastard weed trees) had to be cleared [as did the pots/troughs of spent daffs and the dead wallflowers and tulips, to be replaced with the foxgloves, the first of which I potted-up] - and several plants needed potting on/refreshed compost as I went along. Needless to say, I'm aching...
What finer tonic could there be after all that, than a trip into the heart of Swinging Soho - courtesy of the ever-marvellous Soft Tempo Lounge?
Ah, that's better.

The Scilla peruviana is stunning!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOn a side note, this post just popped up in my reader, I'm sure hours later, but better than days later.
It is such a rewarding plant - for so little effort! I just bunged it in a pot a few years back as a single bulb, which reproduced new ones, re-potted the resulting clump, and it just sits there, expanding and blooming every year.
DeleteI noticed this post had popped up in the reader well after midnight - so more than six hours late, but as you say, better late than never! [NB your post about Baby Jane still isn't showing...]

The STL video is gorgeous! I think Simon Dee might have featured?
ReplyDeleteI've got Foxgloves popping up in all the wrong places, along with a lot of ferns. I have a very natural bee friendly garden!
I've given up on my Blogroll - I'm using my Feedly reader to check blogs.
Sx
I'm sure Mr Dee could get himself featured anywhere in a Swinging 60s themed film.
DeleteI started potting-up our foxgloves (grown from seed last year), so I hope to see them bloom this year. Our garden (weather permitting) is always a-buzz with bees! There aren't many neighbours around here who tend a proper garden, I'm sure, so it's an oasis for them.
As for Blogger, it's getting beyond a joke now. What I'm keen to find out is whether anyone who has subscribed by email using the widget in the sidebar receives a notification at the right time or not...
Jx
I subscribed to my own Blogspot blog and the email comes through days after I post anything. I’ll try yours and see what happens.

Thanks, Ms Scarlet! I suspect I might be over-optimistic that there would be any "back-door solution". Jx
DeleteFeedly is pretty good, it’s faster than my Blogroll in any case!

I tend to be on Blogger every day, so I tend not to need an external feed notification. When the Reading List works, of course! Jx
DeleteMs Scarlet, I would just like to point out that there is no wrong place for a foxglove. They can grow where they like.
DeleteAmen! Ferns, too - we have loads that sprouted in other pots, that I grubbed out and are now thriving in their own space. Jx
DeleteWhat is this? Bully poor Ms Scarlet in the garden day???? Beware - I have a pile of mud and I know how to sling it, plus it contains sycamore seedlings. Huff.

Sensitive soul. Jx
DeleteThe scilla peruviana is mesmerizing. Great photo.
ReplyDeleteIt is a wonder to behold! Jx
DeleteI can only hope that my recent Scilla purchase will be at least a tenth as beautiful as yours when it flowers next year (as far as I can tell, it had just the one flower head this year - I bought it flowerless for a quid from the "Rescue" section of a nursery near here). And I must admit to getting muddled with the name not long after I bought it due to the Peru and Portugal bits! I think I've got the hang of it now, though.
ReplyDeleteI'm really looking forward to seeing your TWO displays in all their blooming glory - and with plenty of foxgloves, I hope! (Foxgloves should replace lots of things in my book, starting with certain world leaders!)
I can practically guarantee that as long as it has good drainage, a deep root-run and sunshine, that Scilla will be the gift that keeps on giving, Mr DeVice.
DeleteOnce the warmer weather arrives and things really start blooming, I am sure there will be a plethora of photos of the extensive gardens here at Dolores Delargo Towers - and yes, foxgloves will indeed be centre-stage! Jx
Love it.
ReplyDeleteI am going to try and bring those orange hats with the wholes in back into fashion.
They will look amazing with a pair of orange Crocs. I could sell them as a set.
Oh dear. You'd be pilloried in the street! Jx
