The divine Miss B
One of my favourite American comedy actresses Miss Eileen Brennan celebrates her 78th birthday today!
From a mainly theatrical background, Eileen Brennan found fame courtesy of her award-winning performance in The Last Picture Show, but it was for sardonic comic roles for which she became most famous.
A contemporary (and friend) of the unsurpassable late Madeline Kahn, they appeared in several movies together - At Long Last Love, The Cheap Detective and Clue. Another regular co-star Peter Falk and Miss Brennan played the superb double act of "Sam Diamond" and his moll in one of our all-time top films here at Dolores Delargo Towers, Murder by Death.
Her most famous (and Oscar-nominated) role, however, was as the hard-bitten sergeant in Private Benjamin.
Despite a life-threatening car accident and recovery from breast cancer, Miss Brennan continues to provide much-needed comedic class in film and on TV to this day. We love her!
