I hear you on the radio, I hear you all the time
Marilyn'n'Madge
Happy 50th birthday today to Peter Robinson, better known as Marilyn - Blitz Kid androgyne, on-off pal of Boy George, and darling of the tabloids (for all the wrong reasons) in the 80s. However he did briefly manage to capitalise on that notoriety with a modicum of chart success.
He hit rock-bottom when he was arrested for possession of heroin in 1986, and indeed it took almost two decades for him to even attempt a return to the stage and screen. Despite protestations he was now "clean" however, his 2006 appearance on the Channel 4 documentary Whatever Happened to the Gender-Benders seemed to confirm from his distinctly "unwell" appearance that there was certainly some damage done. I last saw him years ago on the streets of Soho, in the company of some very dodgy characters indeed...
Hopefully we may see the man return to top form again one day, but meanwhile here is a memory of Marilyn in his heyday, with Calling Your Name (and its lyrics aimed squarely at George!):
How I miss the 80s. Sigh.
