Dear fans and friends, we have crossed the ‘A.I. Rubicon’… not to be too melodramatic.
The flood of A.I. generated videos, images, and music across YouTube and the Internet is at an unprecedented pace. Driven by algorithms that reward relentless content production these creations increasingly dominate search results, recommendations and playlists. The sheer scale of A.I. ‘retro/lounge’ content is overwhelming the authentic music, art and culture, while stripped of historical context, cultural depth and the human experience that gave it meaning.
We are not condemning those who enjoy A.I. generated content. On the contrary, there is room in the world for many forms of creativity, and the more joy people discover, the better. Yet imitation is not the same as heritage.
As original recordings, films, photographs, and artwork become harder to discover, we risk losing touch with that heritage - the musicians, performers, filmmakers, designers and countless other creative individuals whose talent, vision and dedication shaped the era we cherish.
At Soft Tempo Lounge, we remain committed to celebrating authentic recordings, genuine artistry, and the rich cultural history of the music and visual aesthetics we love. DeleteI just finally realized why Soft Tempo Lounge makes me a bit tense. Those were my hippie years! Hippie and disco. But I remember thinking William Shatner was so hot! But I had no idea he had a line at JCPenney. I wasn’t inside a JCPenney until the early 1980s.

My entire personality was a bit of a juggling act. Hippie and disco were the least of it. Yes one minute pot and mushrooms, the next speed (no poppers). I finally went to JCPenney (known as Penney’s) in Pierre, South Dakota in 1983. It became routine when we’d visit, basically because it was one of the most exciting things to do in Pierre, South Dakota!
DeleteI've been to towns where the most exciting there was the department store... Given the current climate and the spate of losses on the high street (several equivalents over here, such as Debenhams, have gone bust and other department store chains have vastly reduced the number of their branches), I doubt they even have that any more. Jx

DeleteWorst of all, some people I work with love AI and keep going on about it, but are shit at their jobs, because they don't actually know anything unless a bot has told them! Jx
My brain balks at AI intrusions. And the school ma'am in me really resents its horrible spelling!
ReplyDeleteI am, like you, a language and grammar "purist" - OK, maybe I do not always adhere to it in the blog context, but it's still my forte. I utterly abhor the lazy, generic crud that AI (and social media in general) encourages, the ravages that has had upon journalism, and the resulting impact upon humanity's natural curiosity and creative thinking, replacing it with blind credulity. Jx
DeleteHere here to the soft Tempo Lounge! And what they say is so true. I was on Pinterest the other day which used to be filled with beautiful photographs people would take and share. Or just share photographs in general.But now when you look at a lot of the images...almost more AI then anything else... Pinterest has them flagged as AI modified. And I'm here to tell you they far outnumber the original photographs. Like the article says I don't hate the images of AI, some of them can be downright beautiful, but at what point will people be able to distinguish what's real and what isnt? Sometimes you can tell. Other times I'll see a snippet of a beautiful room, only to click on it to enlarge and then find it's AI generated. I think it's almost growing too quickly.

ReplyDeleteI'm very glad to hear that STL is keeping things real. So-called A.I. generated media just seems to be disposable junk. Cher from Clueless said it best: it's "a full on Monet".
P.S. I read - and listened - to this while lounging in front of the washing machine door (the only round door in the house) wearing my tin foil suit.
I foresee a shopping spree at Penney's!

The whole point and joy of soft tempo is no matter how hard it is to believe, it is real. if it was just AI what would the point or fun in that.
