Sweetie, darling!
Heavens! Our very own, our favourite, the multi-talented Saint Joanna of the Lumleys is 65 years old today!
From early beginnings as a 60s "dolly-bird" (she was one of Ken Barlow's girlfriends in Corrie), to hitting the big time as the style icon Purdey in The New Avengers and appearing in the bewildering Sapphire and Steel in the 70s, to self-parody and comedy with Dr Willoughby and of course the marvellous Patsy Stone in Ab Fab, she has raised herself to the exalted heights of "national treasure".
Steadfastly reticent about having her private life appear in the spotlight, she nevertheless continues to use her public popularity to support causes dear to her heart such as the rights of the Gurkhas, and to raise awareness of the plight of oppressed people in Nepal, India, Tibet and in Burma (she was born in India under the Raj).
Rumour has it that another Ab Fab special is in the making, which may or may not be a good thing - but she will always have a place in our hearts...
Miss Lumley, we at Dolores Delargo Towers salute you!

I join you in the salute and I might even have a glass or two of bubbly later - in honour of her birthday only (of course).
ReplyDeleteNational Trinket is used too widely but this time it is fitting
Happy Birthday Ma'am x
Love that woman! And I am quite ready for more AB Fab!
