From the Royal Vauxhall Tavern website:
There were so many tears of laughter when Adrella (Peter Searle) performed Sunday School for over a decade at the RVT, these tears of laughter are now tears of sorrow as Peter passed away peacefully in his sleep a short time ago after a battle with cancer. Let us remember him for the great performer he was and the joy and laughter he bought to many - Goodbye, Adrella. The memories and laughter live on.Here's a fitting tribute from Sebastian Sandys, gay rights campaigner and one-time member of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence.
Adrella was a stalwart of the gay drag scene for many years. He performed a double-act called "High Society" with Lily Savage, and held court at the RVT and many other venues with his impeccable lip-synching act, in a similar vein to another long-time friend the late HIH Regina Fong. He will be missed.
Here are a couple of fan videos of the Mistress in action:
RIP a legend.
Oh my god, that photo is so fabulous I can hardly take it.
ReplyDeleteAdrella would be proud to hear it... Jx
DeleteAdrella was the first drag queen I saw at the White Swan in May 1996 - it was the Eurovision night and of course she did the song about Ireland winning every year … I thought she was wonderfully topical … I think she did that Eurovision song every time I saw her.
ReplyDeleteShe'll be sadly missed.
I heard that Tammy Pax from Sparkles Show bar in Gran Canaria passed away this week
It's been a sad week for news

Oh dear, they say things like this come in threes - has anyone checked up on Maisie Trollette lately? Jx
DeleteThat is such sad news. Peter's Sunday school at the Vauxhall Tavern in the 80's was so fantastic.Sadley most of the great draq queens have now gone. She will be swapping make up tips with the likes of Regina Fong,Dockyard Doris,Phil Star,Lee Paris. All these wonderfull people were a big part of my life...The like's we will never see again....Gawd bless them all. xxxxx
ReplyDeleteThere are very few of the "old troupers" left, it's true - but it is rather pleasing to note there has been a bit of a "drag revival" in London bars lately, so at least the "arcane arts" are not quite dead... Jx
