I'm breaking *

Our Cymbidium orchid is spectacular again this year!

I had a flurry of activity this afternoon in the extensive gardens here at Dolores Delargo Towers! It was lovely and sunny, despite the really chilly wind, and I spent a few hours systematically pruning back all our fuchsias, as well as salvias and ferns that hadn't already been tackled. Knackering, it may have been - but it's all getting ready for the summer to come [and, indeed, our clocks go forward tonight and British Summer Time begins tomorrow]!

Meanwhile, on a day of birthdays that include Sir Dirk Bogarde, Sir Michael Parkinson, Dame Flora Robson, Mike Newell, Maxim Gorky, Lord Neil Kinnock, Vince Vaughn, Reba McEntire, Sir Richard Eyre and - ahem - Lady-fucking-GaGa...

...today marks 460 years since the foundation of the fabled walled city of Valletta, capital of "plucky little" Malta!

To mark the occasion, how about their surprisingly faboo Eurovision entry from back in 2021?

She's obviously a Lizzo fan.

  1. I didn't know England does Daylight savings too! Does all of the UK? In the US we complain every year about not wanting to do it every year, but nothing happens, except in Arizona, its the only state that doesn't do daylight savings and I don't know how that works for just one state given the different time zones.

Song is okay. Amused that the bridge has horns that sounds like Cazzette's "She wants me dead" (I'm going to go post it over on ProximaBlue because its fun.)

Glad you got some outside time with the plants! I was outside all day yesterday too.

    1. The UK was one of the first countries in the world to do so! "British Summer Time" (like our pub licencing laws) was introduced during World War I - ostensibly as a "temporary measure"...

I'm intrigued about the similarity between this song and yours, so will head over to visit shortly. Jx

  3. Your Cymbidium orchid really is a stunner! I might have to look into getting one.
Speaking of things inspired by you that I might have to do, having a tidy up/sort out in the garden this morning (before it rains) is on my list! (I've been concentrating on the allotment)

    1. It is a stunner! I am sure I have related the story here before, but I purchased it as a single bulblet in Funchal market in Madeira - and it took eighteen years of growth before we got the first flower!

Now that the clocks have gone forward and we have lighter evenings from now on, I can imagine the garden is going to be very much in focus now. Not today, of course, as we too are expecting heavy rain. Jx

  4. Your orchids are stunning! Our clocks changed, too. Annoying. I love this video! And she’s got a beautiful voice.

    1. She's far too good for a Eurovision entrant. I wonder where her career went after this? Jx

  5. Jealous of orchid.
The morning is racing by! And yes, that was a ferociously chill wind yesterday.

    1. I'm aware of your present "orchid woes", Ms Scarlet - but the joy of Cymbidiums is that they are not tropical, so don't actually need much fuss. We keep it outdoors once the flowers are over (around May time), water and feed it when it's hot and dry weather and don't bring it back in until at least October. It needs the change of light and temperature in autumn to trigger the next year's flowers. Jx
