Tell the sun don't shine, stop Old Father Time, 'cause that's easier to do

Notorious for being the first actress to bare her boobs on American telly, the showgirl-turned-Playboy model-turned-actress Valerie Perrine, who has sadly departed for Fabulon, confounded all expectations when she was nominated for an Oscar in 1974 for her portrayal of the sassy wife in the biopic Lenny (Bruce).

In her estimable career, Miss Perrine worked with such greats as Dustin Hoffman, Jack Nicholson, Robert Redford, Gene Hackman, Mel Gibson, Alan Arkin and Rod Steiger.

Shame then, that the only film I (and many millions of others, no doubt) remember her being in is Can't Stop The Music with The Village People...

All together, now!

RIP, Valerie Ritchie Perrine (3rd September 1943 - 23rd March 2026)

    1. You're not missing much. Apart from Bruce Jenner in said tiny shorts, long before he became Caitlin... Jx

  2. Perrine was good in Slaughterhouse 5 and the tv movie W.C. and Me.
She suffered with Parkinson’s Disease that exhausted her savings, (in America we have for profit medicine that wipes people out financially)
Her fans and colleagues are contributing to a GoFundMe for her funeral.

    1. Poor woman, having the misfortune to be ill in the world's richest country that can't afford to provide healthcare for its own people, yet can afford to send more pointless spaceships to the Moon. Jx

    1. I remember it being completely bewildering - crap plot, terrible acting, and frustratingly coy about actually mentioning the word "gay" - but also one of those "guilty pleasures", a load of enjoyably camp moments and a bit of unchallenging escapism. A bit like Showgirls (without the titillation or the violence). Not like Xanadu, which I never finished watching because it was such shit. Jx

    1. Imagine the faces on our gang if we were to show that at one of our "Film Clubs"... It's a pretty cringeworthy film. Sounds like a plan 🤣. Jx
