Life in plastic, it's fantastic

After a tortuous two-and-a-half-hour journey to even get to the venue [the Piccadilly Line was down for "planned maintenance", our local train line was (as we only discovered when we got to the station) completely up the creek and trains cancelled, so we had to get a bus to Finsbury Park to connect with the Victoria Line, all of which took over an hour, and when we got there that line was itself running a haphazard service so we were crammed in like sardines, before getting to Oxford Circus to change for the Central Line], we had a fun time again at our "film club" evening. We managed to watch two films, despite the delay, and I had never seen either of them - the hilariously slapstick Clue, with its great cast including Lesley-Anne Warren and the late, dearly-departed and sadly-missed Tim Curry, Madeline Kahn and Eileen Brennan...

...and Barbie, with Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling! It was a surprising, clever, and brilliantly performed movie indeed, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Missing from its soundtrack, for some inexplicable reason, was Aqua's mega-hit tribute to the classic doll - and, it being Sunday, I was delighted to discover that "our house band" here at Dolores Delargo Towers had indeed done a version of it!

We love Postmodern Jukebox.

  1. I have seen Clue and adored it. Seen it many times.

But I couldn't stand Babie. And I love Margot Robbie. I'd rather stab my wrist with an ice pik. That the movie creatives ignored a no brainer like Aqua's Barbie Girl said it all.

  2. I can’t believe I’ve actually seen both movies. Time to see Clue again. Oh, that cast! I’ve been on a PMJ binge today. Did NOT hit this one.

    1. The casting was superb on that film - it needed to be, because without such adept players, the flimsiness of the plot would never have worked. Every one of them has their tongue firmly jammed in their cheek, and campness abounds as a result!

PMJ has a vast back-catalogue of wonders. I'm hardly surprised that you didn't stumble across this one. Jx

  3. I still have to see the Barbie movie. Clue...didn't do it for me, sadly, because the cast is to die for.

    1. Clue is very, very silly - but funny as well. It helps if you're a bit drunk when watching it.

Barbie was better than I expected! Jx

  4. Like Mitchell, I can't quite believe I've seen both films, too! Clue was so long ago that I can't really remember much - but I do remember Tim Curry! And I watched Barbie in the summer but wasn't that impressed. The first half was very good (as was everyone in it - even Will Ferrell), but it all went downhill after that for me.

P.S. Well done for making it to The Perseverance - I would have given up at the first sign of travel trouble.

    1. I'm glad you said "even Will Ferrell" - he is one of those "actors" who makes my flesh creep, like Adam Sandler. I know the film had its faults, but it was entertaining! Jx

PS In London, we get used to this sort of shit. You can always manage to get anywhere on public transport, at any time of day or night, however - no matter how long it might take. I have woken up pissed on a night bus somewhere I didn't want to be enough times to know that one! Jx
