Tits and Ass

Another weekend has rocketed by, and here we are nursing our coffees again at some unearthly hour, steeling ourselves for the world of the office...

Hey ho, on this Tacky Music Monday I have uncovered something genuinely, 100% tacky to cheer us up - it's birthday girl Judy Landers (who?) and her equally plastic sister Audrey [who sang Dance: Ten; Looks: Three aka "Tits and Ass!" in the movie version of A Chorus Line], mugging it up for the camera on the amazing Teach Me How to Rock:

Oh, the 80s...

Have a great week, peeps!

PS Is it just me, or is every damn video on YouTube opening "mute" lately..?

Bags and baggage

It's a time of "all change" for one of the biggest gay icons of couture Mr Marc Jacobs (who I sadly neglected to mention was "fabulous at fifty" in April).

No sooner has the dust settled on the news he is to leave the luxury fashion house Louis Vuitton to concentrate on his own eponymous brand, than his latest flame, the - ahem! - hugely talented gay porn star (and house fave here at Dolores Delargo Towers) Mr Harry Louis [Link NSFW] has posted this message on the web:
"I would like to be the first one to share with you all the news... Me and Marc have decided not carry on with our relationship as boyfriends... The distance and lack of time because of work schedules aren't really something realistic, and he's such a beautiful and amazing person, that I think he deserve a bf who will stay at least in one of the cities that he leaves in... Also, I need that too... We love each other very much, and that it was a decision from both!!!! Every special minute we've spent together will be treasured, and a new chapter of our both lives has started... Both of us focusing in work, and make it work!!!! So, for those who were always supportive of us, please don't be sad, live goes on, to all of us... And for those who were praying that this day were coming, there you have... Marc Jacobs and Harry Louis aren't officially a couple anymore!"
In case you are still at a loss about Mr Louis' - star of such titles as Balls to the Wall and After Hours - attractions, you should visit his page on the x-rated Lucas Entertainment website.

As for Louis Vuitton, the announcement of Mr Jacobs' departure was accompanied by a statement that its intention is to concentrate on "high-end" luxury goods - as if it didn't already!

Over at the Dolores Delargo Towers Museum of Camp you can watch Mr Jacobs' final show for LV.

Over here, I've found something sort-of-appropriate for the dual news in Mr Jacobs' life...

Louis, Louis, indeed.

Didn't look too good in shorts?

I had a real crush on Russell Mael from Sparks when I was younger.

Today, I find with a shudder that he celebrates his 65th birthday. Lordy.

Sparks was a band that was miles ahead of the rest (with the exception of Bowie or Roxy Music) in innovation - way back in 1974, the Mael brothers' music was already beginning to sound like some of the stuff we came to love in the post-Punk era, and in 1979 their single Beat The Clock carried all the synthesised "hooks" and effects that no doubt influenced the likes of Depeche Mode, Soft Cell and OMD to create the inspirational pop they did in the 80s...

I was born a little premature
Mom just couldn't take no more
Had no time to learn to cry
Goodbye, Mama, got to fly
Bye, bye, bye, bye, bye, bye, bye

Entered school when I was two
PhD'd that afternoon
Never entered any sports
Didn't look too good in shorts
Got divorced when I was four

I've seen everything there is
I've done everything there is
I've met everyone but Liz
Now I've even met ol' Liz
No time for relationship
Skip the foreplay, let 'er rip
You gotta beat the clock, beat the clock,
Beat the clock, beat the clock

I did lots of travelling
Parts of me unraveling
The Army then rejected me
Said I had two flat feet
Wore them out when I was three

Too bad there ain't ten of you
Then I'd show you what I'd do
I could cheat on five of you
And be faithful to you too
But there's only one of you

The song still stands the test of time - how fab!

PS Russell's the pretty one, not the creepy one with the moustache.

And I'll never have that recipe again

It's damp. It's grey. The extensive gardens here at Dolores Delargo Towers are looking distinctly autumnal. But, hey - another grim week is drawing to its close!

And we know what that means... It's time to get the wet-look hairspray out, grab something suitably sequinned to wear - and party! Here's the late, great "Queen of Disco" Donna Summer herself to get us in the mood with her classic take on the eternally silly MacArthur Park (from 35 years ago this week).

Thank Disco It's Friday!

Have a great one...

Can you show me where it hurts?

Another "totty of the day"!

The ever-gorgeous and totally camp Mr Jake Shears of the Scissor Sisters blows out 35 candles on his cake today...

Apart from his brilliant performances with the Sisters (we went to see them in Camden a few years ago, and we were thrilled by him, his voice, his dancing, and of course his nakedness...) Kylie's BFF Mr Shears - currently taking a break from the group - has contributed to some fine musical moments we all love:
  • His were the main vocals on Tiga's Hot in Herre, You Gonna Want Me, and What You Need from the brilliant album Ciao!.
  • Together with fellow Scissor Sister Babydaddy, he co-wrote with Miss Minogue her hit single I Believe in You; he and Kylie also co-wrote the Aphrodite album track Too Much with Calvin Harris.
  • Two years ago, he launched Tales of the City - the musical. Lord only knows what happened to it, but it never got very far...
  • Jake duetted with Cher on the track Take it Like a Man for her new album Closer to the Truth, released this month.
Here is the track that launched the lovely Jake on the British public almost ten years ago - the Scissor Sisters' controversial take on Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb, which I adore:

Happy birthday, sweetie!

It's beautiful and so are you

Timeslip moment again...

It is thirty years this week since this fantabulosa gothic Beatles cover entered the UK charts. Gulp.

The video has Robert Smith! Armpits! Venice! It's wonderful.

It's Dear Prudence by Siouxsie and the Banshees:

Dear Prudence, won't you come out to play
Dear Prudence, greet the brand new day
The sun is up, the sky is blue
It's beautiful and so are you
Dear Prudence won't you come out and play

Dear Prudence open up your eyes
Dear Prudence see the sunny skies
The wind is low the birds will sing
That you are part of everything
Dear Prudence won't you open up your eyes?

Look around round
Look around round round
Look around

Dear Prudence let me see you smile
Dear Prudence like a little child
The clouds will be a daisy chain
So let me see you smile again
Dear Prudence won't you let me see you smile?
