La Leyenda
Many happy returns (yesterday) to Señorita Sara Montiel, one of our fave divas from Spain. Renowned for her trademark cigar, her outrageous love life, her scandalous memoirs, and for continuing to perform even to this day - at the age of 85 - she is a triumph of art over nature!
She is also evidently a bit of a gay icon, and completely unafraid to parody herself or allow others to do so - she was even portrayed (as the transsexual "Zahara") in the Pedro Almodóvar film Bad Education by Gael García Bernal in drag!
On this Tacky Music Monday, to cheer us up before work, here is the genuine article - a young Sarita performing the very camp Rumba Chamelona, to the delight of the men in her audience, and the gay boys in her chorus line...
Sara Montiel, also known as "La Leyenda" Saritíssima (born March 10, 1928)
