I'm a sensation
As The Guinness Book of Records celebrates its 60th birthday this week, and as the long Bank Holiday weekend (our last till the Festering Season) is looming, I thought I'd delve into its vaults to get our traditional party started...
According to that veritable bible of World Records, the best-selling disco single ever is Baccara's Yes Sir I Can Boogie, with 18 million copies sold.
So here - as if I needed any excuse to play a long-time Dolores Delargo Towers favourite - is that record-breaking classic, for your delectation:
All together, now!
Mister
Your eyes are full of hesitation
Sure makes me wonder
If you know what you're looking for
Baby
I wanna keep my reputation
I'm a sensation
You try me once, you'll beg for more
Oh, yes sir, I can boogie
But a I need a certain song
I can boogie, boogie-boogie
All night long
And yes sir, I can boogie
If you stay, you can't go wrong
I can boogie, boogie-boogie
All night long
No sir
I don't feel very much like talking
No, neither walking
You wanna know if I can dance
Yes sir
Already told you in the first verse
And in the chorus
But I will give you one more chance
Oh, yes sir, I can boogie
But a need a certain song
I can boogie, boogie-boogie
All night long
Thank Disco It's Friday!
Have a good one...

Yes sir, I can boogie but I've never heard this song before and believe me I did more than my share of boogieing.
ReplyDeleteIt is bizarre how a stretch of water like the Atlantic acts as a bigger divide than mere geography. You had Debby Boone at the top of your charts for weeks on end at the same time we had Baccara, yet that particular lady's mawkish mega-hit never even made the Top 40 over here... Jx
DeletePure disco heaven
ReplyDelete...and perfect for "performing" in the bars of Benalmadena! Jx
DeleteStill such a fabulous song - just the right blend of tacky, chic and, yes, fabulous! No wonder it sold so much!
ReplyDelete"Tacky, chic and fabulous".
