On a side note, a network here, the CW is doing a reboot of Dynasty to debut this Wednesday. Already looks like a disaster. Never mess with a classic I say. This will take place in Atlanta, The Colby's will be a African -American family, Sammy Jo is a gay man and ....and ....NO Alexis Morell Carrington Colby Dexter Rowan!!!!!
That character came on strong but then kind of fizzled out. Dianne gave a lot of interviews about how she was going to be TV's first black bitch, but really could not compete with white bitch Joan.
Anyway, Aunt Esther on Sanford and Son was TV's true first black bitch, albeit it a totally different way than Dianne (or Joan for that matter.)
Apparently Joan's feathers were somewhat ruffled when they cast Dominique's character as more than a match for her, so that may be why she was "toned-down" towards the end - however, she wasn't "written out" for any such reason; apparently it was because her fee was too expensive as the series itself began to lose viewers. Jx
PS We never had Sandford & Son. The entire show was based upon an already wildly famous and popular British series Steptoe & Son, so there wouldn't have been much point. The same went for All In The Family (Till Death Us Do Part) and Three's Company (Man About The House).
Classic entrance darling. She was priceless!

Why even call it "Dynasty", then? That's just pathetic... Jx
