Diggin(s) the choons!

Pioneering DJ Ron Diggins and his "Diggola" booth

After the excitement and spectacle of seeing Fantastic Four: First Steps in Leicester Square last night - an utterly brilliant movie, I cannot recommend it enough! - today's been a little more down-to-earth. The weather was warm, and the rain held off, so I took the opportunity to tackle a job that was well overdue [flowering finished back in June!] - cutting-back and training our splendid Rosa Veilchenblau (a rambler, albeit a usually well-behaved one, it was making "a bit of a break for it" with branches heading into next door's garden), and doing a bit of dead-heading and general tidying-up of other plants that have gone over.

Time, methinks, for another little selection of some of the "newer" choons that have caught my ear of late...

As is my wont, of course, first up is a song that isn't new at all - but since I heard it for the first time on the radio a few weeks ago, became a bit of an earworm:

Not one, but two legends on one record? Yes, please!

Filmed on the viewing platform on the 87th floor of London's massive Shard tower, here's a contender for "dance choon of the summer":

Speaking of "anthemic", this is a fantabulosa slice of tongue-in-cheek brilliance - I love it!

Here's an "independent girl" after our own heart - she knows how to keep her "safety gays" in order!

I always love something a bit retro-sounding:

Changing the mood ever so slightly - here's an utterly irresistible number:

And, saving the best for last - the 'Babes!

As ever, dear reader, let me know your thoughts...

  1. I wish I had that Diggola booth. Don’t know what I’d do with it. Maybe redo the entire place in mid-century modern.

    1. It's rather impressive, isn't it? Especially as he built it himself... I love Art Deco, and would love to find a home for it. Jx

  2. As usual, an excellent selection of songs. And Andy Bell, the old darling, it's always a pleasure to catch up with him, although I can't decide if I like the song best or the decorating in that video. What a fabulous place.

    1. Thanks, Peenee! There is indeed some fantastic decor in the Andy Bell video - in the comments on YT, all the director said about was "it's a house in the Hollywood hills", but whoever's house it is, they must be very stylish. Jx

  3. The "Diggola" booth would make a fab home bar.
    # Frances Madden - how cool is that!
    # Andy Bell - nice song I think it will grow on me. Lovely apartment and I want his dressing gown.
    # Jax Jones - Stereo - love this, fab mix, have added it to my play list.
    # Jeangu Macrooy - I didn't think I was going to like this but I love it, Subversive or what !
    # Chloe Jane - nice video, nice mix but does the world need another ga-ga or Britney.
    # Robert DeLong - retro indeed. All the way through it kept reminding me of snippets of several different songs, Even the virtualiser reminded me of parts of other videos.
    # Laufey - irresistible and adorable.
    # Sugababes - Always save the best till last! Fab to have them back and on form. I have been playing this a lot. Fab U Lous !

    2. Thank you - glad to hear you enjoyed so many of the songs on the list! The Jeangu Macrooy one was quite the discovery - and the Sugababes are just amazing, especially when you consider that they are independent artists with control of all their own music these days, since being dropped by BMG. Jx

  4. Hooray! New music!!

"The Tango Never Lies" is a wonderful start to a lazy Sunday afternoon (while wafting around in Andy Bell's fabulous dressing gown). Jangu Macrooy's "...Nasty Evil Gays" woke me up, though - Fantabulosa, indeed!
Unfortunately, even Chloe Jane's Safety Gays weren't enough to convince me to stick around to the end of "Oopsie Daisy". But that just meant getting to "Somebody's Watching Me" that much quicker - I liked it. And, yes, retro-sounding.
Speaking of, love, love, LOVE Laufey's "Lover Girl"! And Sugababes' "Shook" even more so!!!
    Thank you, Jon x
