Cheesy Kiss
If there is one thing we adore here at Dolores Delargo Towers, it is incomprehensibly tacky, cheesy foreign pop music.
Strangely enough - as we explore the wonders of Dutch music in this week's countdown to our Amsterdam weekend - it is obvious that the Netherlands seems to have produced more than its fair share.
I have featured such pearls over the years as (among others) Luv (twice, actually), The Dolly Dots, Vanessa and Doris D and the Pins.
Here's another - the spectacularly-talented girl group calling themselves Babe, with one of their - ahem! - classics...
Oh, the joys are never-ending.

Trapped in a Topaz globe
Continuing the countdown to our mass invasion of Amsterdam this coming weekend (there are seventeen of us there for my birthday, at the last count!) - it is about time I revisited the very lovely and talented Liesbeth List, one of the Netherlands' finest singers and entertainers.
Read my blog about her in 2009.
She is, of course, most beloved here at Dolores Delargo Towers for her rousing sing-a-long number Kinderen een Kwaartje ("Children Go-karting", I believe), but even before she made that "oompah" ditty her own, she was quite a star in the hazy, crazy days of the late 60s, more often than not in duet with that other massive Dutch star of the time Ramses Shaffy.
So here, for your delectation, is possibly their most esoteric (yet evidently most famous) collaboration, Pastorale from 1969. The accompanying footage features (for some baffling reason) Mr Shaffy in what can only be described as a gold sequinned strongman costume, trapped in a topaz globe, while Miss List reclines nonchalantly and appears to sing a completely different song. No drugs involved there, then.

Hallelujah!
We are embarking this week on a countdown to our trip to Amsterdam for my - ahem! - 50th birthday. Only three more days in the stuffy confines of the office, and one day to pack bits and pieces, and we're off!

Sommer musik
It has been a while since my last round-up of "newer" music that has come to my attention - so let's get to it!
First up is an artist I have neglected to investigate much before - Miss Gabriella Cilmi. I suppose her debut Sweet About Me was subject to such radio overkill that I was somewhat put off, but courtesy of Radio 2 (where I heard this earlier today), I am rather taken with her new one The Sting:
The lovely Henry at Barbarella's Galaxy shares my eternal adulation of Army Of Lovers (and indeed any of Aleksander Bard's projects such as Alcazar and BWO), and it was he who drew my attention to this, the entirely unnecessary 2013 re-recording of their all-time classic Crucified:
It may have been released two years ago, but I pay due deference to Neil and Chris of the Pet Shop Boys, who, in their guest slot on the Dave Pearce Dance Years radio show recently picked this remix of a song - that seems to have been a massive hit all across Europe, but never made it in the UK - by Miss Lykke Li:
Much more up-to-date is this rather summery little dance ditty by ETML, aka Londoner Elliott Marshall - it's the incredibly infectious Bind Me:
Speaking of summer anthems, let's crank up the wireless and rave along with the rather fab collaboration between mega-DJ/producers Alex Metric and Jacques Lu Cont, featuring on vocals Malin Dahlström of Niki & The Dove!
