Yékéké nimo yé ké yé ké

I've been rather disappointed by the lack of any kind of acknowledgement of many of my blog efforts of late; my "hit" rate is at an all-time low. Of the last ten blogs over at the Museum of Camp, I have had only three people comment; two of those on one post. Over here, it's more a ratio of one comment every three or four blogs.

I wonder sometimes:
  • Is it Blogger that is dying? [It doesn't have a "Like" button, so you have to - um - actually write stuff...]
  • Am I considered "irrelevant" because I do not "do" F***book or Tw*tter? [I actually write stuff...]
  • Is everyone just too busy doing other things? [After all, Strictly Come Dancing is sooo demanding. And if not watching Strictly, everyone's face is in their phone; so they're doing something-or-other.]
  • Should I just Learn to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb?
  • Is she or isn't she using Harmony hairspray?
Oh what the the hell, who gives a fish's tit when I can rely upon Mr Mory Kanté to cheer me up with a good old shout-along song?

Lord alone know what it means, but Yé ké yé ké, anyway!

  1. Oops, I got thrown out of my Google account when I tried to comment!
I was saying that I've given up FB... I feel more inclined to start blogging again.

    1. I love blogging - in my opinion, it is to FB what The Sunday Times is to Heat magazine.

      Far more civilised... Jx

PS The "gnomes" at Google do need to fix a few glitches with the comment system, however - such as the one that prompts you to log into your account to post a comment, then conveniently fails to save the comment so you have to type it again. It never used to do that.

  5. You know, my own blog has been on the down slide these past few months as you might have noticed. There are a few reasons - mostly that I have been very, very busy, but also because it has started to feel like a one way street. Even when traffic was at an all time high, very few people bothered to leave comments. I even have boxes to tick in for every post (kind of like the Like buttons on YouTube and other sites) but even that seems too much for people to bother with.

Holding out a blog is time consuming, even if it is a blog more focused on bringing music and pictures, rather than written text. I have never really done my blog for the comments, but I have started to wonder why I am spending my time (which I often don't really have) on maintaining the blog. It is very dear to me though, my little Galaxy was born 8 years ago and I'm not willing to let it go. That said, I find that Tumblr is in many ways better suited to my needs - it takes much less time, in one month I got more followers and interaction then I ever did on Blogger, and for someone who loves to share pictures it's a lot of fun. I don't think it is a substitute for a blog though, more like a fun side project.

I don't do bloody F***book either and I rarely use Twitter - I guess that may make me "irrelevant" in a way, but that I don't care about. In fact, I don't do Instagram either - just Tumblr and Blogger on regular basis.

But Jon dear, don't give up on your wonderful blogs - I know there are a lot of people that read blogs on regular basis, but for some reason rarely (or ever) leave their comments. Lately I have checked your blogs whenever I have the time, rather than every day like I used to - but I always do my catch ups and leave comments when I can. My internet experience would not be the same without you - long may you reign!

    1. Darling - we are the tireless ones! This blog (in its various guises) is not far off the eight-year mark, too (in March next year), and, despite my curmudgeonly mood today, I will keep up my daily dose of random ramblings, musings or musical (re)discoveries. Have no fear.

Tumblr looks jolly - and, presumably because it's just a "sharing site", where the raison d'etre seems less about words in favour of images (moving or otherwise) will inevitably be popular with those desiring a "quick fix". It has yet to pique my imagination, however. Maybe one day...

Anyway, as always, thank you for your support. Keep the faith! Jx

  6. I shall be here as long as you are :)

PS: did you see my latest Tracks post earlier this month? I have posted so little over the last couple of months that perhaps people are starting to miss out when I actually do put something up ;)

    1. I quite possibly overlooked it. I have quite a few blogs I follow in my "Reading List", and if I miss a "catch-up day" or two, often posts do drop off the end of the visible list.

I will head back in my TARDIS and take a look...

  7. Jon – I'm usually scrupulous about thanking people whom I appreciate, but it never occurs to me that bloggers can be bothered with their acolytes. A HUGE THANK YOU from me in Orstraylia for brightening my EVERY DAY with your Museum & Razzle Dazzle sites. My world in particular would be so much greyer but for the eternal joy of your posts. Should you need ever need reassurance as to the worth of your considerable efforts, just check the number of 'hits' you get on your pages, at least half of them are from me.

  8. I really enjoy your site, you've introduced me to some great women artists and some brilliant tracks by people I knew of, but wouldn't have considered listening to normally. You remind me of Russell Davies (i miss his show) So don't think people are ignoring you.

    1. Considering how much we love Russell Davies, I am humbled by the comparison.

Thanks for your kind words, Isobel! Jx

    2. That's OK, I often put some of the tracks you've uploaded on while I'm in the kitchen.

Plus many people can be utterly poisonous in internet comments threads, so you are not missing anything

    3. Oh yes - I have encountered evil comments from "out there in the dark" before (this blog began its existence on MySpace - which was the embryonic "social network" from whence FB and its ilk emerged - and I do intermittently maintain a YouTube channel). I can't deny life is sweeter without all that baloney.

Glad you enjoy the musical interludes - you should see our record collection!

  9. I'm covered in shame for not commenting more often! But please know that here in NYC I follow Delores AND Museum Of Camp faithfully (usually binge reading on weekends) and your posts are wonderful, and much appreciated.

And I applaud anyone who ignores FaceBook and Twitter! I made up an identity a few years ago (John Truitt, 6133 Kensington Ave, St. Louis, MO -- "the boy next door") in order to look around FaceBook and see what the fuss was about.

I found some classmates from high school (in whose live I hadn't been all that interested even at the time), and gained the earth shattering info that one was reading Harry Potter and the other was about to make French toast.

While there a total stranger sent me a friend request in spite of the fact that I was a fictional character. I attempted to delete the account (couldn't -- it still exists) and have never looked back.

Keep bucking trends, and keep up the wonderful work -- you immeasurably cheer my weekends!!!
