I'm in a slow, lazy mood today - after a full-on all-day session yesterday in the Wetherspoons in Holborn for my brother-in-law The History Boy's birthday - so I think a trip to pre-revolutionary Havana is in order [I wish!], in the company of one of the island's most celebrated sons Benny Moré!
First, a two-parter featuring Señor Moré's most revered song, segued into another Cuban standard:
...a sumptuous number set in a nightclub I wish I could have visited:
...and finally, there's this crazy little number:
That's perked me up a bit!
Bartolomé Maximiliano "Benny" Moré on Wikipedia.
Oh I love that poster! Back in the glamour days when Cuba wasn't off-limits and the buildings still had paint, sigh.

DeleteAlso the name of my favorite drink! Rum, coke and a twist of lime.
ReplyDeleteA coworker and I used to dream about converting an old freighter into a pirate ship where we sold "illegal" imports of America just a few meters into International waters off the coast of Florida. We could ferry people out for some gambling, Cuban cigars, rum, and shows. No moral dilemmas, just cigars and lots of rum.
Enterprising - but probably likely to cause an "international incident"... Jx
DeleteI can't tell you how many times I've nearly caused and international incident. Its a gift of my chaotic nature.
DeleteWell, I hope you "mambo-ed" and "salsa-ed" your way through it! Jx
DeleteCuba was on my list...and then Covid happened.

DeleteOh, blimey! I thought that last one was about a mecha Barbra, and started imagining a giant robotic Babs terrorising Cuba.
