Born brilliant, born bad, and a little bit mad

“Don’t worry, we’re just getting started. There’s lots more bad things coming, I promise.”

As we depart for Essex for a few days, dear reader, let me leave you with the merest soupçon of the film that was the unavowed highlight of "our gang"'s Film Club gathering yesterday...

Sumptuous. My new favourite film!

"Normal" service should resume here midweek...

  1. I enjoyed this film tremendously. It's Disney, so blech, but those actors sure do a great job bringing things to life. The fashion stuff is so much fun... the story? Not so much. Still... I love to celebrate an evil queen. And this one has two of 'em! Kizzes.

  2. It has easily broken into my top 10 favorite films list easily, and the best entertainment to come out of the pandemic. It was nice to see it take the Best Costume Award at the Oscar's. I read the designer said Ms Thompson hated getting out of wardrobe when filming was done.

    1. I imagine she did - I wonder how many of those magnificent creations she managed to keep..? Jx

  3. We were at a dinner party last night and Cruella came up! Interestingly, the biggest complaint from a couple of the men present was that the story was too simple and that it didn't explore the deeper message about nature v nurture. Everyone else LOVED it, the costumes, the story, the scenery, and just about everything, including the cast! The group was a mix of film industry people, so to my mind that accounted for the polarized opinions, as in writers, cinematographers, above and below the line folks. Always a good time in Lalaland, sweetpea. Enjoy your holiday! xoxo

    1. Oh, my dear - you are mixing in all the right circles nowadays, aren't you? Anyhow, when a film is this preposterously entertaining - not to say camp in abundance - one scarcely needs a plot by Dostoyevsky or Proust...Jx

  4. I've been on the fence about watching this one. The best that Disney can do is reimagine backstories for existing villains in an attempt to make them anti-heroes doesn't work for me. If they hadn't tried to make this part of 101 Dalmatians lore and made it its own rich and interesting story embodied in fine fashion, I wouldn't have hesitated to watch it!

    1. I'd suggest give it a try, and see what you make of it. I hate lazy sequels/prequels/spin-offs/remakes with the best of them, but this film stands on its own merits, in my opinion. Jx
