Gettin' tipsy?

Sniff my Sarcococca!

I've been pottering in the extensive gardens here at Dolores Delargo Towers again today, dear reader. The weather's been mild, the sun was shining, and our Sarcococca hookeriana var. digyna 'Purple Stem' has been filling the air with scent and attracting the year's first honeybees!

I continued my mission at this time of year to "banish death" from the garden, so more ferns, salvias, hardy geraniums and verbena have had "the chop" to remove the old, tatty, windswept and browned top growth, clearing the clag of leaves and sycamore seeds off each pot as I went along. Still more to do but it's looking so much better out there, and now I can "see the wood for the trees" (to coin a phrase) which of the herbaceous plants I need to prioritise for repotting/division.

A gardener's work is never done...

However, now I'm sat down with a cider in my hand, so I think this number from our "house band" is in order, don't you?

The original song [video here for the uninitiated (like me)] was apparently the big surprise hit of 2024, spending 36 consecutive weeks in the UK Top 100 (twelve of those in the Top 10), and a remarkable 19 weeks at #1 in the US Billboard singles chart. Quite why remains a mystery to me.

The PMJ version is at least listenable...

  1. No pottering here...but we have finally ended our deep and dank of cold of rain and snow....it's almost 50 degrees today! Hell, that feels like summer!

    1. We hit a sultry 57F/13C here today, apparently. Positively tropical!

Regardless of the temperatures, there are so many things that need doing at this time of year we simply have to get out there and do them - before everything starts growing in earnest and it all gets out of hand... Jx

  2. PMJ prove again that you can make a silk purse out of a pigs ear!
I had never heard of the original song and frankly wish I still hadn’t; Dreadful !

    1. I agree. Like Beyoncé and Lil Nas X before it, it doesn't matter the colour of the performer, bad Country and Western is still bad... Jx

  3. Pottering is so satisfying. Thanks for more great music! And I immediate took a liking to Nathan Chester.

  4. I'm currently wintering in Spain for the past 3 days it has been cold and it was pissing it down last night, couldn't go out, if I had wanted weather like that I would have stayed at home. I prefer the above song to the original but not by much, I for one would be interested to hear Bring Your Daughter to the Slaughter by Iron Maiden in that style or perhaps People Equal Shit by Slipknot.

    1. Sorry to hear that the weather in Benidorm's so miserable. We have experienced similar before in the Costa del Sol in February, but thankfully not for a few years.

I'll pop a note through to Scott Bradlee and see if he can do the honours with those choons - PMJ has tackled Guns ‘n’ Roses, Thin Lizzy, Kings Of Leon, Aerosmith and Metallica before, after all... Jx
