With so many weekends recently taken up with social gatherings of one sort or another, the extensive gardens here at Dolores Delargo Towers had accumulated an impressive inch-deep carpet of leaves from the bastard weed tree (sycamore) still overhanging from next-door. I knew I needed to tackle it, so, with an unaccustomed burst of energy after yesterday's very lazy day, I did - and also began the process of "banishing death" by cutting back dead stems on the phlox and other perennials. Two very full black bags later, and I am very pleased with the result.
Now I am knackered, of course!
To ease my aches and pains, let's take a much-needed virtual holiday in the sunshine (I wish!), shall we? - courtesy of the faboo Soft Tempo Lounge:
Ah, that's better...

Same here dear. I headed come soon from the Pocono Mountains. But before I left the gardens and back patio looked much the same....and the season of decay is ascending fast. Who can even keep up with the leaves at this point?
ReplyDeleteWe are fortunate that this year, two of the offending bastard weed trees in various neighbouring gardens were felled, so at least it's only the product of one bastard to deal with... There are still a load clinging on waiting to drop, so this won't be the last clean-up by any means (and the seeds are also embedded everywhere), but it's a job worth doing while the weather's still dry.
DeleteI loathe and despise this season with a vengeance! Roll on Spring. Jx
PS Not nearly enough bulging beach hunks in that Brazilian travelogue video, in my opinion!
So far, I'm LOVING the huge trees around us, but things may change if they all let go at once! In our part of the garden there are 3 fruit trees, waaaay beyond pruning and across the lane, mighty oaks and (whispers) sycamore. I'll try for photos before the rain...
ReplyDeleteTrees are wonderful, beautiful and vital things. Just not in the tiny space of terraced-housing back gardens that we have around here! The sycamores next-door are mere babes compared to their "mother" a few gardens up over the back, which towers a good twenty feet higher than any of the houses in the area.
DeleteThe massive black walnut that came down back in July was truly glorious; just in the wrong place. In Regent's Park or Kew Gardens, maybe...

Yes. We are fortunate that the 'burb where we live is mainly cul-de-sacs with laneways and open green areas. I'll try to make time for a blog post...
DeleteI look forward to it! Jx
DeleteHaving a dog and a lot of falling leaves is a problem - at least you didn't get your footwear messed up whilst you were clearing. Oh the sweet smell of autumn!

P.S Thank you for STL!

Autumn doesn't smell sweet to me, Ms Scarlet. Jx
DeletePS You're welcome!
DeleteWe should be able to prosecute the neighbours for fly-tipping. I get a kick out of gathering leaves that have blown into my garden from the neighbours trees and tip them over the fence, preferably onto their newly swept patio.
ReplyDeleteWe could take an ASBO out on the rabble next door on numerous counts, such as their vile screaming children, the yappy dog being let out at 7am every day, the drunken granddad shouting into his phone in Bulgarian on weekend mornings... Sometimes I feel like tipping more than just leaves over that fence 😡. Jx
DeleteThe extensive gardens look loved once again.
ReplyDeleteThey are, Mitchell, they are. Jx
