Your Majesty

It's a special weekend for us Brits, and for the whole Commonwealth (over much of which she remains Head of State) - it's HM Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee! With a massive flotilla down the Thames on Sunday (which we will not be going to see, for fear of being squished in the crowd), the mega-concert featuring Sir Tom, Dame Shirley, Dame Elton (if her cough has gone), Dame Cliff, Princess Kylie, Sir Paul, Annie Lennox, Stevie Wonder, Robbie Williams and some lesser mortals on Monday (for which we failed to get free tickets in the draw), and the glittering carriage procession to St Pauls on Tuesday.

In other words, a nice long weekend off in which to party!

To get us in the mood, here's another genuine Queen - who celebrated her 70th birthday on Wednesday - it's Monti Rock III, aka Disco Tex and the Sexolettes, with his all-time classic Get Dancin'. Thank Disco It's Friday!

From Good Times blog:
It was 1974 and Sir Monti Rock III burst upon the dance scene with his group Disco Tex and His Sex-O-Lettes. Their first single, Get Dancin', never failed to fill the dance floor in New York clubs, like the legendary Le Jardin, and their appearances at Trudy Heller's nightclub were always sure to sell out. The song was written by Kenny Nolan and Bob Crewe, with Crewe also acting as producer. Backing vocals, for a time, were by Jocelyn Brown. Get Dancin' is surely Hi-Camp - and Sir Monti wouldn't have it any other way. His legend and art still remains an inspiration, with a cameo appearance in the film Saturday Night Fever, Get Dancin' being featured in The Simpsons and Disco Tex and his Sex-O-Lettes being name checked in an Elvis Costello song, Invasion Hit Parade and prominently in the Pet Shop Boys' 1996 hit Electricity.
And as a very special bonus, here is the grande dame's very own Coronation - as King and Queen of Las Vegas - in 2010:
