From Chesney's bum to a Cummerbund

The weather's turned very wintry, indeed. We had slushy snow yesterday morning, there was a frost overnight (-1C/29F), and we're not expecting any temperatures in double-figures (C) for a few days. Yuk.

To cheer ourselves up a bit, how about a little selection of some of the "newer" choons that have caught my ear of late?

How about we start with quite a surprise - the return of 1990s "one-hit wonder" Chesney Hawkes... with a decent song and a rather faboo "Saltburn-spoofing" video (with several flashes of his arse) to boot!

House favourites here at Dolores Delargo Towers Duran Duran are still going strong - even with a cover of an old ELO song, they still hit the spot!

[And at 6pm GMT, you can click here for the official premiere of the band on stage at Madison Square Gardens in New York performing this very song]

Now for something completely different - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart as you have probably never heard him before...

Speaking of updated versions of old classics, this:

Something that pricked my ears up, when I heard it on the radio the other day, turned out not to be new at all (in fact one commenter remarked it was "2019's best 80s song"), but it's new to me, so that's all that matters!

Another "hangover" from Hallowe'en - how about Alice Cooper vs Bruno Mars... vs Gene Wilder and his monster?! Genius:

[RIP, Teri Garr]

Leaving the best to last (as is my wont), Dame Sophie does it again [with a superb video, a "sequel" to her huge 2001 (and again in 2024 thanks to the aforementioned Saltburn) hit Murder On The Dancefloor, complete with the same judging panel, and again filmed in the camp-as-tits Rivoli Ballroom]!

As ever, dear reader - let me know your thoughts...

  1. Sophie is superb as ever! Great video too.
The Pet Shop Boys did All the Young Dudes on Strictly on Sunday - fab. One of the few 80s bands who can still sing and never disappoint.

  2. I think this may be your best collection of music vids. Evil Woman is one of my all-time favorites and the combination of Pet Shop Boys and Bowie was great (who were all those young dudes??) and Sophie. My, my.

    1. It's an unusually cold snap. Hopefully it won't last - then it's your turn! {{cackles maniacally}}} Jx

PS What did you think of the choons?

  4. WOW, just got caught up on everything I've missed this past week or so, sweetpea! The tunes were fantastic, especially the ones I missed when they first came out! Re: the snow, I'm of one mind - Lovely to look at, delightful to hold, but all things considered, better yours than mine! xoxo

    1. Glad to hear you enjoyed the music, sweetie! This current weather's a complete pain in the arse - not normal for London this early in the winter, and something that's probably completely alien to y'all in LA. You are, after all, on the same latitude as North Africa... Jx

  5. What a selection! Some right bangers (I'm probably too old to say that now) and nothing terrible (although I only listened to a bit of Chesney's as I found it a bit humdrum).

Dame Sophie's video takes the cake, but I actually prefer PSB's and DJ Cummerbund's choons.

    1. You didn't stick with the video for all the naked Chesney-flesh? It's worth it...
I love DJ Cummerbund - and this latest mash-up is simply faboo! Jx

  6. I quite like Royel Otis's version of Murder on the Dance Floor I heard it last week blaring in Pull and Bear, though I don't know why clothes shops have to be like discotheques nowadays, you can't hear yourself shoplifting. Damehoods are usually reserved for old bags, Sophie is far too young.

    1. I'll have to look Royel Otis up, as I have never heard of them.

I hate it when shops have the music up too loud and the lighting too low - I remember back a few years ago when I went in for a nose in the flagship Abercrombie & Fitch store at the bottom of Bond Street (I was enticed in, of course, by the semi-naked Adonis at the door), and it was like some kind of nightclub with gorgeous-looking people but a load of tatty denims lying around. 7. Rondo ala Rumba! Uplifting! (And the drummer in the vertical stripes.) Our friends are here from Colchester. They commented on how cold it was here Wednesday morning. Then they checked Colchester weather Wednesday afternoon. Minus 3!

    1. We always refer to Colchester as "Cold-chester". We came back from Spain in February one year, brown as berries after some brilliant sunshine, and stayed over an extra day with the boys in Essex (Braintree). They decided a day out to look at the sights of Colchester would be a good idea, but we spent most of it huddled by a log fire in a pub! Freezing! Jx

    1. Well spotted, Mitchell! Nothing to be ashamed of, methinks. He's still pretty fit for a 53-year-old... Jx

  9. Thank you Moving with Mitchell for the Chesney flash 2 minutes 48 seconds.
    Loved the Duran Duran.
    Pet Shop Boys = Fabulous
Fabulous = Dame Sophie of Ellis-Bextor
