Another snippets post today, dear reader:
- Rodent chaos news: An aeroplane was unable to take off from Ponta Delgada airport in the Azores for four days because of "loose hamsters".
- Gay icon news: Judy Garland's ruby slippers from The Wizard Of Oz will be on display in London next week, before they are auctioned off in December (at an estimated sale price of £4 million). I would place a bid, but they wouldn't fit my size 11 feet.
- Ancient Egyptians had raves shocker: A Ptolemaic-era Egyptian mug decorated with the head of Bes, an ancient deity or guardian demon, has been found to contain traces of hallucinogenic drugs and alcohol. Were The Prodigy or The Shamen involved? We should be told.
- Many happy returns to our fave Radio 2 DJ Liza Tarbuck, whose show cheers us up every Saturday evening - she's 60 years old today!
- Croquette scandal news: A supermarket worker in Spain was unlawfully sacked for having eaten a croquette that was going to be thrown away, a court has ruled.
- Pride of Britain?: The Elizabeth Line, London's fast-train "Crossrail" service - named after our late Monarch - was actually run by a Hong Kong Chinese company; now it's Japanese. So much for patriotic fervour.
- And finally: RIP Charles Dumont, who composed Edith Piaf's Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien...
And the weather? Cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey!
Uf, the weather! I read that news about the supermarket worker. So absurd in the first place. Non, je ne regrette rien!
ReplyDeleteC’est payé, balayé, oublié! Jx
DeleteI want that Piaf number played when I leave this life. At FULL VOLUME!
ReplyDeleteAvec mes souvenirs
DeleteJ’ai allumé le feu
Mes chagrins, mes plaisirs
Je n’ai plus besoin d’eux!
Amen. Jx
Happy Birthday Liza we love you
ReplyDeleteand RIP Charles Dumont. That was one hell of a song.
Amazing how recent it was! I always thought she sang it at the height of her fame in the late 40s, rather than the early 60s. Just three years later, she was dead, aged just 47... Jx
