WTF?!
It's a gloomy Sunday, all dense cloud and chilly dankness. I only got out of bed around 3 o'clock, there being no light to awaken me.
Time for a selection of "newer" (and not-so new) choons that have caught my ear of late to brighten the horizon, methinks...
Let's open proceedings with our ever-reliable "house band", with their take on one of my all-time favourite songs, ever:
Speaking of "80s vibes" - there appears to be a wholesale revival of such sounds around at the moment. Not least with this one, which, if it were not for the demi-drag makeup and feathered hat, might well have been a Tears for Fears album track:
Taking us more down the path well-trodden by the likes of Bauhaus and their 80s Goth compatriots, this:
Next, a lady who has obviously listened to Depeche Mode's Violator album on repeat:
The wonderful Miss Kim Wilde [coincidentally just featured in Ms Scarlet's 2025 comeback] has delved back into the decade where she started, too! If Gary Numan wasn't involved here, someone's nicked his synthesisers...
[see also: Ms Scarlet's Wonky Words. Spooky coincidence.]And, finally, a song that is actually from the 1980s [and one that was played on Gary Davies' Sounds of the 80s show on BBC Radio 2 just this week] that - much like my little "mixtape" I put together towards the end of last year - is one I have never previously played here, despite it being a favourite of mine for 37 years!
As ever, dear reader, I welcome your thoughts!
All good selections dear! Adore Kim Wilde. The first is a perfect one for tonight. I'm currently getting about 9".
ReplyDeleteOf snow that is.
Oh, I haven't had that for many years! Snow, that is.
DeleteGlad you enjoyed the collection, dear - clink, clink! Keep warm. Jx
Nothing says 80's or 80's-inspired like some synth! That first GIF is nightmare fuel! LOL. You know I love the house band!
ReplyDeleteWhile Mistress Maddie gets railed with snow I'm expecting a freight train of freezing winds early tomorrow. Which we could send both to DC for Trump's inauguration.
*Wish we could send both to Donald.
DeleteOnce I first heard synthesiser music (probably courtesy of Giorgio Moroder) I knew I could never look back!
DeleteWe've had some frozen crap already, so I am hoping the snowy shit stays where it belongs - over there! Trump's 78 year old, and pneumonia's a huge risk for the elderly. Not that I would wish that on anyone... 👹👹👹 Jx
Gosh what a fab collection and yes they sound so eighties and that's no bad thing either.
ReplyDeletePMJ can do no wrong and sales for their new world tour are have been released

Whoo-hoo! A successful mix. Glad you like them all... Jx
DeletePS I also thought there were hints of Amanda Lear in the Night in Athens singer's voice (Tina Boleti, apparently). Fab!
I love that PMJ cover
