Sad news. Another Nolan Sister has departed for the sprung dancefloor and glitter curtains of the Fabulon Country Club "Dinner'n'Dance Nights" today - Linda [far left, above], once tastefully described in the tabloids as "The Naughty Nolan" because some of the publicity shots for the launch of her attempt at a solo career were considered a bit rauchy.
The poor girls are cursed, it seems. Their lead singing sister Bernie (Bernadette) died with breast cancer in 2013, the eldest Anne was also treated for the disease, and sadly Linda was given the all-clear in 2011 after years of treatment, but the cancer returned.
In memory of happier times, here are the girls with their follow-up to the mega-hit I'm In The Mood For Dancing - live on the Lena Zavaroni Show!
RIP, Linda Nolan (23rd February 1959 – 15th January 2025)!
Huh... they were the Lennon sisters in satin disco pants. Got it. My word, Bernie certainly never met a vowels sound she couldn't chew for a good eight count. If dieting on her vowels alone, the citizens of Sesame Street would never go hungry. Kizzes.
ReplyDeleteMiaow! Cruel - but accurate... Jx
DeleteI am not familiar with any of them or even dare say, heard of them before.
ReplyDeleteLike so many of the cheesy girl-groups I love to feature here from countries far and wide, they never had a hit in the US of A. Jx
DeleteI had never heard of the Nolan Sisters. They at times have an ABBA sound, don’t they?
ReplyDeleteABBA played on very cheap speakers, perhaps. Jx
DeleteExactly!
DeleteI was never a fan, but really felt for them when they were cursed with cancer.
ReplyDeleteRIP Linda.

The Nolans had fans? I wasn't particularly mad for them, either - but I was bopping to I'm In The Mood For Dancing when I was still underage but going to local clubs, and it is still a party mainstay, even now! Forty-six years later. Gulp. Jx
DeleteI remember my sister throwing a slipper at the telly during one of their performances.
ReplyDeleteHope the telly was OK. Jx
DeleteI was never a fan either and indeed have never knowingly heard this track before; but what a tragic story.
ReplyDeleteI would say how awful for the poor Mum but then she has probably popped her clogs too.
having said that and after watching the video it did capture the feel of the time. I can almost smell the Brut body spray mixed with the smell of Elnett on the dance floor at the local Disco.
Ewww. Brut, Hai Karate, Old Spice - all those aftershaves smelt like toilet cleaner to me... Jx
