It's another snippets post, dear reader...
- Would you rather be attacked by mozzies - or cats? news: Scientists have discovered that an extract of common catnip - aka feline Viagra, that sends cats into ecstasy - is as effective at repelling mosquitoes as more expensive products, such as DEET. Remind me to seek some out for our trip to Amsterdam in August, and to avoid the oversexed toms. [Not!]
- My kingdom for a..? news: A massive Trojan Horse has materialised overnight in Trafalgar Square to mark the launch of Christopher Nolan's latest film The Odyssey. Money talks, it seems.
- I'm not a witch! I'm not a witch! news: A professor of architectural history in her new book has debunked the idea that etched patterns on the stones in medieval buildings are anything more than the mark of the mason(s) or apprentice(s). Not “witches’ marks” or “ritual protection symbols” at all! But does she weigh the same as a duck?
- Dem bones, dem bones, dem dry bones news: A fossilised skeleton of a 67 million-year-old 12-foot tall Tyrannosaurus rex has been sold for a record £37.4m ($50.1m) at a Sotheby's auction in New York. Where the fuck would you keep a thing like that? On your front lawn?
- And finally: The England football team's star striker during this World Cup has emerged as 23-year-old Jude Bellingham.

And the weather? Still warm, but the ongoing breezes are taking the edge off. What I call a good summer!
FOOTNOTE:
So Monday's post finally showed up in the Blogger Reading List - THIRTY-FOUR HOURS after it was posted!
What a bunch of wankers the Google gnomes are.

Blogger has worn my nerve-ends to frizz! I changed on thing and there's no "save" button!!If I can't figure it out I'll be on the bloody move again!
ReplyDeleteBlogger is a perfectly simple site to use, but, by gawd, it frustrates me to hell! This Reading List issue is so bloody random. It's not just me, either - The Madam's garden post from 5th July arrived four days after he published it! Jx
DeletePS There isn't a "save" button on editing an already published post. It's "Update".
Heavens to Besty....I just have the feeling Jude has one hell of a jaw breaker!
ReplyDelete"to avoid the oversexed toms." WHAT? it's the over sexed toms I find as the most fun in the sheets.
On yet another bitch fest....I see the blogger issue is still on going. Who's manning the damn ship?!?!?!? More than half the blogs I read are still almost a half day behind showing up, with a few, I hate to say it, aren't even showing up now. And it seems to always be affecting the same blogs that aren't updating. Call me boggled.
I'm happy to suffer a bruised jaw for that!
DeleteDoes catnip work on houseboys? If so, I'll buy a gallon.
The Blogger Reading List time-lag is just annoying. Some posts turn up straight away, others take forever. Some people have a time-stamp on their posts so I know if theirs are turning up on time, but others (yours included) do not have it, so I don't know when you posted anything that does turn up, nor whether it's working for your blog an not for others or vice-versa. I hate the uncertainty. Jx
Jude Bellingham looks too perfect for my taste - and too young!! The smell of a teenage boy's bedroom comes to mind. Ick. Bet he doesn't know how to dust or iron either.
ReplyDeleteI'm upset about those witches marks, and I'm not sure why?!!
As for Blogger - it makes no sense!!! It is too random. Have you tried fiddling with the time? Like putting your current post in the past? I have a hunch you've been trying lots of things? It could even be down to the blog 'theme' - as I said completely flipping random and nonsensical.
Sx
I'd forgive Mr Bellingham not being house-proud. He has very interesting underpants...
DeleteAs for "trying lots of things" where the Blogger Reading List is concerned, I have tried everything I can, including unpublishing/republishing, checking the code, adding things and taking them away, changing the time, and it still haphazardly does what it wants! Sigh. Jx
I'm doing my own little experiment on my Blogger Blog re the updating issue - let's see how it plays out with your next couple of posts.
ReplyDeleteSx
We'll see. This post was there when I logged in this morning and I published it quite late, so no particular issues there, but then if I post something later today it may disappear into the ether for another 24 hours. Who can predict? It's very wearing. Jx
