If you just believe in the things that your eyes can see
And so, it is the day...
The Gay World Cup is here! Our flags are up, our costumes are at the ready - Tonight we crack open the "booze of all nations" for the Eurovision Song Contest.
Our hopes rest with Bonnie Tyler and Believe in Me, the UK entry for 2013. It is definitely a song that has grown on me, but will it win?
You say you don't believe in signs from up above
And you laugh at the thought of putting your faith in stuff like love
You never see the rainbow you just curse the rain
You say you wanna believe
But it's just not worth the pain today
That's all fine if that's how you want it to be
But if you're feeling alone and afraid and you can't breathe
Believe in me yeah
Believe in me yeah
Believe in
The way I look at you
And stand beside you
The way I speak the truth
I'd never lie to you
If you just believe in the things that your eyes can see
Believe in me
You come and you go when there's never no compromise that's why
The seconds and the minutes of the days of your life
Go crawling by
That's all fine it that's how you want it to be
But you're feeling along and afraid and you can't breathe
Believe in me yeah
Believe in
The way I look at you
And stand beside you
The way I speak the truth
I'd never lie to you
If you just believe in the things that your eyes can see
Believe in me
What'ya gonna do when your ship is sinking
And you're crying out for help
And just a seagull's listening
In the dark of the night in the middle of the fight
When you're reaching out for something and there's nothing
Believe in me yeah
Believe in me
The way I look at you
And stand beside you
The way I speak the truth
I'd never lie to you
If you just believe in the things that your eyes can see
Believe in me
We believe in you, Bonnie. Bonnie! Bonnie! Bonnie! Oy! Oy! Oy!

I'm backing Bonnie and the song has grown on me - unfortunately most of Europe wont have the chance for the song to grow on them …
ReplyDeleteSo I'm also backing Finland and Denmark
x
I haven't listened (as is my wont) to many of the entrants, as I like the "shock and awe" effect of seeing them for the first time at the party, but I do rather like Ireland as well as the UK. Bonnie's not doing bad on promoting the song in Europe, either, as she apprently has sung it live and on TV in a few countries of late. Fingers crossed! Jx
DeleteWe woz robbed, as was Finland - at least Denmark won and I liked Malta too.
ReplyDeleteWe should quit - get out and take our money with us next year, it's over honey, you want me to give you a ride, I'm sorry there's something in the boot...
We are perpetually disappointed with the voting system, but we will be back this time, next year, as every year! Jx
DeleteWhat a shocker, bloody Denmark won! And two of my favorites, the UK and Ireland of course didn't do very well. I voted like crazy for them, but oh no: 0 points from Iceland! Bonnie didn't even get votes from Germany which I found surprising - she has always been very popular there and she promoted the song over there.
ReplyDeleteI quite liked the songs from Norway and the Netherhlands, at least they did well.
Only a year from now we get to do this all over again ;) Hope you had a great time!
Hey ho - Scandinavia seems to have a bit of a hold over Eurovision of late. We were unimpressed by the winner, but then again, we always are.
DeleteOur party, on the other hand... Jx
