Gunpowder treason and plot
Ah, Bonfire Night is upon us - a tradition lost on our former colonial chums - all pyres and fireworks, mulled wine, sparklers, toffee apples, parkin and baked potatoes...
...or perhaps, as in this video from today's birthday boy Jonny Greenwood and his band Radiohead, something else altogether:

Oh how I love this video. Such a shame American Halloween has spread to the UK and elsewhere.
ReplyDeleteIt is cultural imperialism - along with rap music, Dunkin' Donuts, school proms, NFL, baby showers, sweet potatoes, Black Friday and Netflix, we're drowning in American trends. You can even buy Thanksgiving cards in WH Smith nowadays! Groan. Jx
DeleteBlack Friday! Oh that drives me nuts. We now have Black Friday here in Spain. Black Friday WEEK, it's called. The day after Thanksgiving, what? (And I hated that one-day sale in the States... the stampedes, the idiocy). My sister-in-law... we're not close, would actually camp out overnight in front of Target!
DeleteHeaven help you if such rubbish has reached Fuengirola - imagine the fights at the Lladró shop... Jx
DeleteIf Australia's current trend continues we'll wind up being the next star on their ragged bloody banner!Cultural imperialsm, indeed.
ReplyDeleteOh dear. Even "the land Down Under" can't escape. Jx
DeleteI doubt even Vegemite can save this lot!
DeleteI prefer Marmite. Jx
DeletePS We've probably now got half the readers wondering what the hell we're going on about :-)
I've written the youngest niece out of my will for saying 'cell phone' instead of 'mobile' I want her birched! The pretentious, American wannabe twat.
ReplyDeleteI bet she says "fries" instead of "chips", "chips" instead of "crisps", and "cookies" instead of "biscuits" as well. Burn the witch! Jx
