Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha...

Our spectacular Madeira geranium is almost in full flush in the extensive gardens here at Dolores Delargo Towers [click to embiggen]

Having spotted that not one, but two great composers were born on this date, this gives me another perfect excuse to inject some class into this blog...

...with a twist, inevitably.

Whoever would have come up with the idea of putting Gabriel Fauré [born 12th May 1845] and David Guetta together? This lot did...

[I didn't even recognise the David Guetta song - it's here, fyi]

Even weirder, whoever would have thought this piece of music-as-artform that was a surprise hit back in 1981 was based upon a work by Jules Massenet [born 12th May 1842]..?

Indeed, Miss Anderson even subtitled the record "for Massenet". According to a column by Olivia Giovetti for Operavore:
"The work, a breakdown of Massenet’s "Ô Souverain, ô juge, ô père" from Le Cid, channels Massenet’s text through a vocoder, layering in several other elements that obscure the source material but amplify its heart..."

Here's the original - see what you think. Apart from the fact that her lyrics "O Superman. O judge. O Mom and Dad." are an evident pastiche of the song's title, I can't hear it, myself!

I wonder what either composer would have thought...

    1. It's been three years in the waiting for that display. Two-and-a-half feet tall, and eighteen inches across - worth the wait, I'd say! Unfortunately once it flowers, it dies. I fell in love with the plant when I visited Madeira (25 years ago now) - we have admired them since at Kew Gardens - and just had to grow one!

We do love a good mash-up, especially if it's as classy as that. Jx

  2. That's a nice bush you got there. I also have lots of bloomers I can't stop taking pictures of. I feel like the flower paparazzi.

    1. We have hundreds and hundreds of garden photos over the years - in fact for the past fourteen months or more they're the bulk of our photos as we've hardly been anywhere else. Jx

  4. It's out! It's out!! Isn't it marvellous!

Almost as marvellous as your geranium is Laurie Anderson's "O Superman". I haven't listened to the original yet, but will do in a mo.

    1. P.S. Like Ms Scarlet, I also recognised "Titanium" somehow.

    2. It's a thing of wonder - we were worried that the hideously cold Spring nights would have killed off the flowers, but in the end only a few were lost. Thankfully! Jx

    3. PS I was mad on O Superman when it came out (I still have the vinyl single). Not so impressed by Titanium - I prefer the "classical mash-up"...
