So sick and tired of all the hatred you harbour

It is the International Day Against Homophobia [or whatever it's called these days, since the acronyms keep changing] and so, to the governments of Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Malawi, Oman, Jamaica, Myanmar, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Yemen, Zambia, Tanzania, Sudan, Iran, Uganda, Maldives, Morocco, Algeria and Egypt [from this list]; to Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Italy, Romania and Bulgaria [see here]; and to all the insane Trump acolytes, the pseudo-religious evangelists, imams and and rabbis, the tin-pot dictators, rappers, media moguls and to anyone who espouses hate against us...

...we charge our glasses for our traditional toast. All, together, now!

Cheers!

  1. 70% - I didn't know it was that high. That's outrageous. I get really down about authorities dictating narrow views - it causes no end of damage. Live and let live.

    1. We all want that - which is precisely why I get so fucking annoyed when its so-called "organisers" turn Gay Pride into a ticket-only parade, rather than what it should be - a protest! To all those young queens and dykes who ignore such politics, saying it's "not relevant" to them in their comfy Western bubble, I would remind them of the words of Peter Tatchell: "...never take your freedom for granted and don’t assume you will always have a right to that freedom forever". 4. It is REALLY hard to promote acceptance of gay and transgender rights in these countries. When I met with gay and transgendered activists in India (2004) we had to go through an elaborate production of driving for hours, changing vehicles and at one point be blindfolded before reaching our final destination because the activists we were meeting with would have been beaten to death on the streets if anyone knew who they were. I listened to their stories and cry with them. I wish there was more we could have done. Our role, thanks to white privilege and being foreigners, was to share their stories (without names or identifiers) to the Indian media. Somewhere is England is a man with the Hindustan Times, a picture on the front page with me in it and my autograph. I was standing in line behind him at the airport when he recognized me. He was holding the paper in his hands and practically yelled, "Hold on, this is you!?!?!" Hahaha.

    1. Lily Allen (for it is she) may be an irritating little madam, but her songwriting is spot-on - and the cavalcade of joyful "fuck you" gayers in the video help to make the serious message all the more impactful, in my opinion... Jx

  6. Blogger ate my comment yesterday...but I was only agreeing with those who come here.
I have relatives and friends on both sides of the street and I know how difficult it can be for them.Especially as some of the family have cut them off.

  7. That didn't sound right! Some of the family no longer acknowledge the "poofs" as they still say.
