An apple a day...

In the run-up to National Apple Day [yes! such a thing does exist], and with The National Trust offering "apple advice" and other apple-related activities all week, I think we need a song in praise of it, don't you?

Well, I think it's supposed to be about fruit (wink, wink):

I never tire of that song.

PS

NOT an apple.

The beautiful-but-annoying Black Walnut tree in a neighbour's garden, merrily shedding its leaves all over the extensive gardens here at Dolores Delargo Towers.

  1. Cox Cox Cox! I quite agree.

I wonder if he's any relation to Vashti Bunyan.

    1. She's a strange folk singer from the 60s, Just Another Diamond Day... Edina Monsoon sounds incredibly like her when she sings in AbFab.

    1. Archery?

Regardless... autumn colours are lovely for a week or two, but I loathe this Season of Decay with a vengeance. Jx

    2. Archery? That sound have read Our autumn. Damn word correct. How it got archery out of that is beyond me.

  4. I have to find the lyrics to that song because the laughter sort of drown them out! That tree is gorgeous, but then again I'm not the one who has to rake them all up! Thanks for the laughs, sweetpea! xoxo

  5. Cox Orange Pippin. When we were kids we thought Pippin was a rude word...
...and then we grew up and learned the truth.

  6. Thank goodness that having five a day is practically the law!

P.S. That is a beautiful tree, but I feel your pain.

  7. Black Walnut is the one tree one should never grow in a yard... not because of the mess, but because it hogs all the nutrients in the soil. What does your neighbor's lawn look like? Is his hedge in need of a trim? As for apples... well, let's just say I went through a period where bananas were my best friends. Kizzes.

    1. I have no idea what damage it's done to anyone else's gardens or property - and to be honest I doubt it was actually planted by humans, given the number of walnuts the squirrels bury in our pots. I suspect it originated in one of the parks around here, and a squirrel reckoned that particular garden was the perfect place for its latest stash...

So many properties in our neighbourhood are - like ours - rented, and there aren't many tenants who'd bother to tend to a rapidly-growing weed tree (hence the reason why there are sycamores in next door's garden). Jx
