She could always throw her legs up in the air higher than any of us... and wider

What better way to spend an intermittently-sunny-but-mainly-overcast Sunday than in the company of the faboo Steve Hayes, reviewing in his own inimitable way one of our all-time favourite films here at Dolores Delargo Towers, the uber-camp Evil Under the Sun?

Perfection.

    1. It was bad enough when Dame Diana Rigg departed - I think this whole blog might go dark if Dame Maggie (or indeed Dame Shirl) went... Jx

  2. This is the first time I've seen Maggie Smith young. I do so love her on Downton Abbey!

    2. I was just going to mention that one, Dinah. Melanie - if you watch the video in this post, Steve Hayes shows some photos of a very young Maggie Smith!

NB She was 48 when she made Evil Under the Sun... Jx

  3. Well ! This old Queen absolutely adores that film and no matter how many times we have seen it this makes me want to snuggle down and watch it again.
It is the Campest and most fun of the set.
And yes the costumes are pure joy, especially the black bathing trunks !

    1. It is a joy from beginning to end, and yes - definitely the campest of all the Agatha Christie movies (although the Mirror Crack'd does come close)! Jx

PS I always had a pash for Nicholas Clay [RIP], ever since he played the most smouldering Lancelot ever in Excalibur. I almost fainted when I saw him in those trunks...

Nice to see a reference to Kenneth Williams as well.

    1. You notice at the end bit, where Steve's giggling away to himself, he's recounting Kenneth's anecdote about going to buy a bra with Maggie - and when she looked at the price she shouted out loud: "It would be cheaper to have my tits off!" Jx

    1. Steve Hayes has been doing his "Tired Old Queen at the Movies" reviews since 2009, so you have a lot of catching-up to do! Jx

PS I imagine your holiday hotel to be a bit like this, when you arrive in your Anthony Powell frock and hat...
